But we were clouded out all night so there was no pick up science and no work on sky. The indome tasks completed were: - New masks made for DIS and echelle - Dis scattered light - Lots of arctic darks before the new amplifier installed. - Lots of NICFPS rotations to test bad images. It happened multiple times but never with anything consistent. The type of badness also changed. Instead of constant zeros I was getting rectangles of various sizes with various constant values. Below are listed the start of bad exposures and what I was doing rotation-wise at the time. Fits rotation Rotation Motion 0105 383 long pause, no motion 0461 126 moving from 89 to 200 0462 171 moving to 200 0463 200 moving to 200 0601 0 Just finished slewing to 0 0664 0 Had not been moving for several minutes I dismounted NICFPS while it was integrating to see if I could induce a failure but it read out fine. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 33 10 16 264 (W) 373 mstly cldy none 17:00 32 11 17 245 (WSW) 410 mstly cldy none 18:00 33 10 23 205 (SSW) 746 cloudy none 19:00 33 9 22 223 (SW) 773 cloudy none 20:00 34 8 22 224 (SW) 796 cloudy none 21:00 33 8 20 231 (SW) 529 cloudy none 22:00 32 8 17 215 (SW) 536 cloudy none 23:00 32 9 23 220 (SW) 552 cloudy none 00:00 31 12 29 232 (SW) 539 cloudy none 01:00 30 12 16 259 (W) 606 cloudy none 02:00 28 10 17 267 (W) 367 cloudy none 03:00 27 11 13 287 (WNW) 492 cloudy none 04:00 26 11 14 270 (W) 382 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
