Time to catch the Hogwarts Express! :D ... :) .......... :| .................. :/ ............................ :( OK, I guess...I guess I missed the train this year. Again. Oh well, we still had a magical night of disaster at the observatory! First off, we are on generator power (because what better way to celebrate a 3 day weekend?). Sigh. A big storm rolled through this afternoon and noxed out power and it has yet to be restored (and there's no word from the utility company on when they expect it to be restored). While doing test slews in the afternoon I had to reset the dome controller 4 times (3 of which were collisions after the controller was reset). Reparo spell definitely wasn't working for me there but manual labor worked in the end. Mirror covers naturally had to be rest as well. I looked into it and saw myself exactly as I was :) At the start of the night there were clouds with no real threat of rain. However, things were coming from the east and, what with being on generator power and it being monsoon season, I wasn't going to open. Around 11pm Prof McGonagall...er...McMillian apperated into the control room. We heavily discussed the frustration of a clear sky while running on generator power. After much persuasion, I agreed to open ONLY if she stayed on site with me to deal with any emergencies. At 01:46am, we opened the dome to the magic of the sky! Seeing was moderated and the humidity kicked up a little but everything ran smoothly, we were able to get CU02 nearly their full half, and we closed during twilight. It should be noted that my pet bat (Victor) also missed the train and ended up escaping into the dome. I tried to get him back outside but he wouldn't listen. I'll see if I can locate him tomorrow and accio him back out into the night (assuming we open). As of 06:30 we are still on generator power. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:44 arctic 363( 973) 90 46 13.1 13.8 14.2 13.8 13.3 VR 1.37 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 57 47 16 90 (E) 259 clear none 17:00 60 43 11 91 (E) 173 clear none 18:00 61 42 14 136 (SE) 201 clear none 19:00 61 42 13 134 (SE) 413 clear none 20:00 60 42 15 126 (SE) 537 clear none 21:00 60 42 8 117 (ESE) 633 ptly cldy none 22:00 60 41 16 131 (SE) 541 ptly cldy none 23:00 60 42 13 133 (SE) 590 mstly clr none 00:00 57 43 8 120 (ESE) 633 mstly clr none 01:00 57 44 8 112 (ESE) 651 mstly clr none 02:00 56 48 8 109 (ESE) 860 clear humid 03:00 55 49 8 120 (ESE) 870 clear humid 04:00 55 49 1 128 (SE) 820 clear humid 05:00 56 47 6 184 (S) 645 clear humid 06:00 54 47 5 186 (S) 617 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
