Later, when Jupiter was rising, a dust spike got just into the closure range. I shut the dome for a while and ran the press fans to bring down the inside dust, and once we got on sky again Jupiter was higher with tolerable seeing. At 01:02:10 MDT, a power flicker caused UPSes to complain and the azimuth axis stopped tracking although the other axes were all right. A simple init allowed us to recover within two minutes and the data taking was not badly affected, but I was a little surprised that such a brief flicker caused a problem. The night was mostly clear but some of the time, clouds over the basin would impinge on the western sky and then disappear before moving east, in a reversal of the usual orographic pattern. By the end of the night the setting targets were sometimes affected by these western clouds, but never badly enough to stop observing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:25 naic 800( 1869) 99 40 11.7 13.8 13.7 13.4 12.0 550 1.44 00:04 naic 575( 1408) 31 28 8.1 8.9 9.7 8.6 8.3 550 1.5 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 62 17 40 218 (SW) 7723 clear none 17:00 65 19 21 202 (SSW) 7803 clear none 18:00 62 17 31 249 (WSW) 9468 clear none 19:00 59 15 33 244 (WSW) 6461 clear none 20:00 55 14 26 252 (WSW) 2706 clear none 21:00 52 18 19 260 (W) 2157 mstly clr none 22:00 50 20 15 266 (W) 2645 mstly clr none 23:00 48 19 22 289 (WNW) 4249 clear none 00:00 47 18 12 274 (W) 2472 clear none 01:00 46 18 17 275 (W) 1012 clear none 02:00 46 21 20 265 (W) 579 clear none 03:00 44 22 19 265 (W) 425 mstly clr none 04:00 42 21 19 275 (W) 460 mstly clr none 05:00 41 22 17 261 (W) 491 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
