Luckily, none of the radar reached us and we were able to stay open all night. Happily, the OU class were cheery bunch who worked hard for 15 hours straight. Unfortunately, there was an issue was the alt drive during B-half. Around 4:00 am we had an altitude motion error while trying to slew from 80 to 35 alt at an az of about 200. I thought it might have been a bug and it looked like there were some guts in the drive. However, even after trying to clean near the motor I wasn't able to get the telescope to move. I tried small moves but didn't get anywhere. I eventually tried using the ladder as a handle to help pull up and that worked, but I could feel slipping while the alt drive moved 1 deg. I ran multiple test slews after this and everything was fine. I cleaned the drives and didn't find much in the way of bug parts. Before the motion error I had closed the mirror covers to take a wavecal exposure but they opened and closed without issue and the stop button was in place. So, in short, not sure what happened but everything is good. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OU01 D T/U 03:53 04:11 Alt motion error ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:34 APOLLO 750( 2134) 60 55 11.5 13.3 12.9 13.3 12.1 530 1.30 19:48 arctic 577( 1212) 45 62 10.9 11.5 11.8 11.2 10.9 Sem 0.82 02:14 ecamera 532( -108) -148 58 7.6 8.0 8.7 7.9 7.6 ND2 1.27 03:22 dcamera 499( 667) 16 60 6.8 7.2 7.8 7.0 6.8 -- 1.46 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 59 16 13 213 (SSW) 425 ptly cldy none 17:00 58 14 23 214 (SW) 516 ptly cldy none 18:00 56 14 15 194 (SSW) 402 ptly cldy none 19:00 55 12 19 224 (SW) 546 ptly cldy none 20:00 52 12 15 196 (SSW) 687 ptly cldy none 21:00 52 11 18 203 (SSW) 579 ptly cldy none 22:00 52 9 10 183 (S) 490 ptly cldy none 23:00 52 9 13 200 (SSW) 500 ptly cldy none 00:00 52 8 14 188 (S) 513 mstly cldy none 01:00 49 12 12 243 (WSW) 624 mstly cldy none 02:00 47 17 7 266 (W) 702 ptly cldy none 03:00 46 22 13 277 (W) 839 ptly cldy none 04:00 44 22 13 306 (NW) 836 ptly cldy none 05:00 43 22 13 275 (W) 1125 mstly cldy none 06:00 42 21 15 314 (NW) 1121 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
