We began the night with a quadfecta of conditions: high wind, high dust, high humidity and rain that quickly turned to snow. Then rain again, then snow. Weather couldn't decided on rain or snow. Due to high winds, did not do complete slew tests during checkout. Precipitation stopped, but gusts continued to increase exceeding 60mph starting around 19:45. Around 22:00 the precipitation alarm went off again, and there was 1/2" of snow dumped within half an hour. We were unable to run the snow program due to high winds. Around midnight, the skies cleared, and wind began to back off. I felt safe enough to open the hatch and check the roof. There was loose snow (a dusting) but a solid layer of ice on the lightning arrestors. The scope was left parked due south. We did not open at all. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 35 30 33 238 (WSW) 9143 cloudy lt rain 17:00 34 30 28 227 (SW) cloudy lt snow 18:00 34 31 41 219 (SW) cloudy humid 19:00 32 31 34 207 (SSW) cloudy humid 20:00 31 30 39 257 (WSW) cloudy humid 21:00 30 30 38 256 (WSW) cloudy humid 22:00 29 29 52 264 (W) cloudy snow 23:00 27 27 33 269 (W) cloudy lt snow 00:00 23 22 34 258 (WSW) cloudy humid 01:00 21 20 21 267 (W) cloudy humid 02:00 19 17 10 269 (W) cloudy humid 03:00 19 16 13 283 (WNW) cloudy humid 04:00 19 13 15 304 (NW) cloudy none 05:00 20 11 13 346 (NNW) cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
