The snow was blinding, the wind was biting, the cold was freezing. Did I mention the wind? Bill gave us a direct order to keep the barn doors shut while the wind was above 20mph. We despaired. Winds were kicking up to over 35mph. Would be open at all? Then, around 2:30, as the wind was continuing to drop, we hit the limit! Slamming back our coffee and rubbing our eyes, we opened the doors and took to the skies! The dying wind provided us with subarcsecond seeing (yeah!) and WY01 was able to get some good data. No problems tonight ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 02:41 arctic 899( 555) 161 77 -2.1 -3.6 -3.5 -3.2 -2.1 sdss-r 1.26 04:14 arctic 790( 531) 223 72 -1.9 -2.0 -2.1 -2.4 -1.9 sdss-g 0.65 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 25 -1 30 318 (NW) 1379 clear none 17:00 23 -5 14 326 (NW) 741 clear none 18:00 22 -8 25 27 (NNE) 389 clear none 19:00 23 -10 24 12 (NNE) 178 clear none 20:00 23 -12 30 351 (N) 155 clear none 21:00 22 -12 11 9 (N) 103 clear none 22:00 22 -12 33 20 (NNE) 101 clear none 23:00 24 -12 28 30 (NNE) 298 clear none 00:00 28 -20 27 23 (NNE) 579 clear none 01:00 28 -19 16 53 (NE) 345 clear none 02:00 28 -19 18 28 (NNE) 300 clear none 03:00 29 -17 14 26 (NNE) 222 clear none 04:00 29 -17 13 17 (NNE) 151 clear none 05:00 27 -19 6 29 (NNE) 113 clear none 06:00 28 -18 1 279 (W) 129 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
