JH03 needed to check out some supernovae with DIS and did so from 21:00 - 00:47. It was only supposed to be from 22:00 - 00:00 but, given we had poor seeing and wouldn't be able to collimate, Russet allowed him extra observing time. The night was clear with...just...terrible seeing...again. Though, it wasn't as bad as the other nights; we did touch below 2". ---------------------------- Engineering tasks included: ----------------------------- - zeroed NA2 rotator = -0.09 - zeroed agile rotator - restarted hub which caused problems. I restarted tron and, while it was responsive, I was not able to log into TUI, it just was forever stuck on "Authorizing." Shane killed the tron process with a kill -9 and then started it back up and all was well! The classic turn it off and off solution. - Reset axis controllers - Russet checked the DIS focus and had me adjust the red camera (she sent an email with gory details). - The seeing was not conducive for collimation (surprise, surprise), so Russet had me run a 50pt high altitude pointing model. The results looked great! So I implemented them and called it good. I closed up at 05:00 and I do apologize for closing early. We might have been able to grab some pickup science with an Echelle program but...then again, the seeing was nearly 3" by that point and the data wouldn't have been very good :( ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:17 dcamera 516( -44) 51 71 -6.9 -6.9 -6.4 -7.0 -6.8 -- 1.80 21:38 dcamera 604( 132) 172 35 -4.1 -5.6 -5.2 -5.5 -4.2 -- 2.06 00:51 dcamera 422( -107) 207 76 -5.6 -6.2 -5.6 -6.2 -5.9 -- 1.75 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 19 9 7 323 (NW) 182 clear none 17:00 17 8 1 119 (ESE) 171 clear none 18:00 20 -1 16 52 (NE) 123 clear none 19:00 19 -2 17 57 (ENE) 97 clear none 20:00 21 -12 13 31 (NNE) 70 clear none 21:00 24 -18 1 328 (NNW) 20 clear none 22:00 24 -20 4 37 (NE) 19 clear none 23:00 24 -24 1 236 (SW) 55 clear none 00:00 21 -25 11 83 (E) 38 clear none 01:00 22 -25 7 89 (E) 29 clear none 02:00 23 -24 14 61 (ENE) 43 clear none 03:00 24 -25 19 74 (ENE) 39 clear none 04:00 23 -20 16 79 (E) 26 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
