Everything was dry so I assumed this must have happened last night during the rain storm while I was running the snow program at high altitude. My guess is that water fell on the mirror covers which then ran down onto the mirror when I opened the mirror covers in order to move and park at low altitude. However, Russet looked at the mirror and she thinks most of the marks are old and it might actually be dust on the mirror, making the old water marks show clearer. The drops show no signs of running down the mirror (as it should have done when I slewed down to park) and the smears point toward the tertiary even though I never pointed at zenith. The wind came from the south all day yesterday so it shouldn't be gypsum and, even if it was, the mirror wasn't open for more than 5 min yesterday... Either way, it doesn't look great. We had rain, high winds (peaking near 50 mph), and fog all night. I called it quits at 5am. We had no power issues but 60 mph winds are expected again tomorrow... ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 40 31 23 208 (SSW) cloudy fog 17:00 39 31 18 203 (SSW) cloudy fog 18:00 39 31 17 192 (SSW) cloudy lt rain 19:00 39 31 20 183 (S) cloudy lt rain 20:00 40 29 24 189 (S) cloudy fog 21:00 40 31 17 174 (S) cloudy rain 22:00 42 30 31 189 (S) cloudy fog 23:00 40 26 29 200 (SSW) cloudy fog 00:00 39 30 29 204 (SSW) cloudy lt rain 01:00 40 30 25 187 (S) cloudy lt rain 02:00 40 30 32 202 (SSW) cloudy fog 03:00 39 30 29 202 (SSW) cloudy lt rain 04:00 39 30 35 194 (SSW) cloudy fog Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
