I didn't have time to do test slews during checkout, which came back to bite me later as the altitude drive threw several motion errors during the first slew; only managing to make it from 10 degrees to 12 degrees over the course of three overcurrents. After moving the telescope by hand to a higher altitude, the telescope appeared to be fine. By 19:00 we were back on schedule. The telescope slipped in altitude twice while guiding on a target (alt of about 71 degrees, HA of 01h20m) around 00:06 (MDT), with a current oscillation noted by Russet at 00:06:40 (06:06:40 UT). It was about 1 amp peak-to-peak, at about 1 Hz; with no noticeable corresponding oscillation in the error. It was visible as trailed stars on the guider images. It occurred again once around 6:56 UT, and two more slips at 07:31 and 07:33 UT. Another two slips occurred at 08:26 UT (HA 3h15m, alt 50 degrees). In all cases, the telescope recovered guiding on its own with no intervention. All of the targets were roughly in the same area of sky in equatorial coordinates, tracking downwards. I observed a high-frequency oscillation- 2,3 Hz? 1 amp peak-to-peak- in the altitude current around 8:35-8:36 UT, shortly after a slew. This was *not* associated with any drive slippage. In contrast, B half was uneventful, with none of the above issues making an appearance. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW12 D T/H 18:43 18:57 Multiple altitude drive overcurrents ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:05 dcamera 350( 549) 122 45 7.2 8.8 8.6 8.1 7.5 -- 1.10 02:48 arctic 460( 715) 86 17 5.9 5.7 6.4 5.6 6.0 sdss_r 1.35 Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 50 9 3 227 (SW) mstly clr none 17:00 50 8 7 237 (WSW) mstly clr none 18:00 44 -1 6 290 (WNW) mstly clr none 19:00 45 -1 7 292 (WNW) mstly clr none 20:00 46 -1 8 282 (WNW) mstly clr none 21:00 46 0 9 277 (W) mstly clr none 22:00 46 1 5 258 (WSW) mstly clr none 23:00 45 0 7 226 (SW) mstly clr none 00:00 43 10 6 262 (W) mstly clr none 01:00 44 14 5 258 (WSW) clear none 01:00 44 14 4 243 (WSW) clear none 02:00 45 18 7 264 (W) mstly clr none 03:00 43 20 5 261 (W) mstly clr none 04:00 44 24 7 268 (W) ptly cldy none 05:00 45 15 9 273 (W) mstly clr none 06:00 47 14 2 306 (NW) mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
