I ran some tests on the rotator and found that it was consistently overcurrenting and stopping when rotating CW near 180. However, it moved fine while rotating CCW through -180. I spent some of twilight time trying to diagnose the rotator but ultimately gave up (I noted it as time lost). We kept the instrument from rotation CW near 180 and everything was good except for one rotation near the end of the night when we had a motion error at rot 166. At dawn, I dismounted dis, spun the rotator without issues, went to zero the rotator but found it was well zeroed, and then mounted tspec and ran some test rotations. Tspec had no issues with any of the rotations. We will be mounting DIS tomorrow night so we'll see how it behaves. Concerning actual observing, we had high clouds all night that, while annoying, we were able to punch through. Things started getting thicker around 4am and by about 5 am, we gave up due to clouds. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UV01 DIS I/H 17:11 17:33 Diagnosing rotator motion errors ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:39 dcamera 462( 603) 293 71 7.2 8.0 8.0 7.6 7.6 -- 1.27 23:22 APOLLO 375( 1319) 86 38 7.4 6.9 7.5 6.7 6.8 530 1.10 00:23 dcamera 351( 412) -79 70 6.3 6.3 6.8 6.0 5.9 -- 1.02 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 46 16 3 4 (N) 524 mstly cldy none 17:00 45 13 12 359 (N) 468 mstly cldy none 18:00 44 12 7 46 (NE) 319 mstly cldy none 19:00 47 14 7 46 (NE) 76 mstly cldy none 20:00 47 18 3 134 (SE) 382 mstly cldy none 21:00 48 18 2 198 (SSW) 448 ptly cldy none 22:00 47 17 1 252 (WSW) 367 mstly clr none 23:00 47 10 3 335 (NNW) 523 mstly clr none 00:00 44 12 6 352 (N) 285 mstly clr none 01:00 43 14 9 4 (N) 395 ptly cldy none 02:00 44 14 6 351 (N) 393 ptly cldy none 03:00 43 14 7 350 (N) 425 mstly cldy none 04:00 45 15 9 359 (N) 367 mstly cldy none 05:00 43 14 7 357 (N) 422 cloudy none 06:00 43 13 8 0 (N) 342 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
