We had a tour group come by this evening that I had missed the email about (my fault); they were a wonderful group of students who seemed quite interested. We had an alt drive motion error during the first slew of checkout (around 18:19), from 104,10 to 270,80 degrees, the error happened at alt=74 degrees. Russet made some changes to the drive settings, but we ran into the problem again when slewing down from ~75 degrees to 10 degrees at 00:53; the error occurred at the very end, at 10.4 degrees. Two more motion errors occurred during slewing to change the tertiary, at 03:51 and 03:52, both at high altitude. This was followed by pointing errors. Russet helped troubleshoot (including another motion error at 04:25) and did a simple fix with calibration offsets, but we didn't get UW09 observing until 04:35. More details in PR 1907. I had to reboot the DIS Blue ion pump six times during the night (PR 1908). Red was fine. Aside from the various telescope issues, the weather was beautiful and clear all night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW09 Echelle T 03:51 04:35 Repeated motion errors in the altitude drive and large pointing errors. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:41 dcamera 441( 898) 122 32 12.2 14.1 13.6 13.6 12.2 -- 1.72 22:00 dcamera 441( 739) 112 55 12.2 11.1 11.6 10.8 10.7 -- 1.46 01:24 arctic 434( 885) 318 43 12.2 10.4 10.8 10.2 11.1 SDSS_r 1.76 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 9 270 (W) clear none 17:00 3 265 (W) clear none 18:00 8 266 (W) clear none 19:00 9 295 (WNW) clear none 20:00 6 268 (W) clear none 21:00 9 282 (WNW) clear none 22:00 8 268 (W) clear none 23:00 3 245 (WSW) clear none 00:00 8 266 (W) clear none 01:00 7 266 (W) clear none 02:00 14 253 (WSW) clear none 03:00 9 270 (W) clear none 04:00 9 283 (WNW) clear none 05:00 13 300 (WNW) clear none 06:00 8 279 (W) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
