The wind was shrieking through the trees, sounding like banshees (reaching 34mph) and the stars glittered like watching eyes. We had the Colorado group with us to chase away the ghosts and ghouls and the first night of training went smashing! So, we don't have to worry about the telescope getting TP-ed. However, we did have an issue with dome collision near dawn. There was no obvious sigh for why the collision occurred as it was not windy (the wind being about 16mph at the time). I had to reset the dome controller several times (added to PR 1889) before things would move smoothly. Luckily, this was a move to a sky flat position and the observers were taking a bunch of darks so, while it took me about 10-15 min to sort out, we actually didn't lose any time on sky and I did not note any time lost in the program tine. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU03 R T/U 06:56 07:05 Repeated dome collision ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:14 dcamera 375( 12) -85 37 -4.1 -3.2 -2.5 -3.6 -4.0 -- 2.60 18:22 dcamera 359( -13) -86 36 -4.3 -3.4 -2.7 -3.8 -4.2 -- 1.85 19:37 dcamera 418( -5) -112 47 -4.3 -4.3 -3.5 -4.4 -4.4 -- 1.54 00:16 ecamera 395( -974) -35 31 -4.4 -5.2 -4.6 -5.1 -4.6 ND4 1.40 01:22 arctic 456( 226) 74 29 -3.2 -4.4 -3.8 -4.2 -3.5 3500 2.36 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 27 -11 16 23 (NNE) 619 ptly cldy none 17:00 27 -16 17 30 (NNE) 568 ptly cldy none 18:00 24 -19 16 28 (NNE) 975 mstly clr none 19:00 25 -22 10 350 (N) 595 mstly clr none 20:00 25 -19 9 2 (N) 424 mstly clr none 21:00 24 -19 14 359 (N) clear none 22:00 25 -18 10 13 (NNE) clear none 23:00 24 -16 14 2 (N) clear none 00:00 24 -15 10 17 (NNE) clear none 01:00 23 -16 24 16 (NNE) clear none 02:00 26 -21 18 20 (NNE) clear none 03:00 28 -18 20 23 (NNE) clear none 04:00 31 -15 8 31 (NNE) clear none 05:00 32 -14 12 26 (NNE) clear none 06:00 33 -14 14 21 (NNE) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
