It was predicted to be completely clear but, instead, we had cloud, rain, hail, wind!! We were wondering if we would open at all for the NMSU class. However, less than an hour after sunset, the wind died down and the humidity started dropping and even the clouds cleared out! We were able to open but didn't have the best seeing. Near the end of NM01's time on DIS we had a rotation motion error. The rotator would not slew further than -180. I lost about 8 min trying to trouble shoot the issue but then we switched to echelle. During switch over, Russet and I found that the ice ball around the blue camera had become so large that it was hitting the support of the instrument, stopping it from rotating. I noticed some altitude oscillations at 05:59am at az = -72, alt = 51. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM01 D I/H 22:06 22:14 DIS not rotating due to ice block ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:34 dcamera 434( 489) -15 62 5.8 6.1 6.7 5.8 5.9 -- 1.21 20:29 dcamera 445( 483) 10 47 5.3 5.5 6.1 5.3 5.4 -- 1.65 21:20 ecamera 403( -486) -120 44 5.9 5.3 5.9 5.2 5.5 ND1 1.20 23:41 arctic 475( 683) 110 26 5.6 4.9 5.4 4.9 5.0 sdss-g 1.86 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 40 40 16 291 (WNW) cloudy rain 17:00 42 38 14 268 (W) mstly cldy humid 18:00 43 37 17 277 (W) mstly cldy humid 19:00 44 34 18 287 (WNW) 457 ptly cldy none 20:00 42 33 25 292 (WNW) 608 clear none 21:00 43 31 21 291 (WNW) 545 clear none 22:00 41 32 20 304 (NW) 560 clear none 23:00 42 32 17 330 (NNW) 596 clear none 00:00 42 31 8 346 (NNW) 603 clear none 01:00 42 29 4 347 (NNW) 784 clear none 02:00 42 22 12 2 (N) 1336 clear none 03:00 42 15 13 349 (N) 1235 clear none 04:00 42 16 7 354 (N) 1257 clear none 05:00 41 15 12 360 (N) 1235 clear none 06:00 40 14 10 8 (N) 991 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
