Filled with cool weather, changing trees, and...rain. Hopefully this October won't be as wet as last October but, so far, it's not starting out very well for our observers. We were under complete cloud cover and when it wasn't raining it was just plain ol' humid. Butnow for some good news! This new night log seems to work! And Shane fixed the binning issue with ecam (yay!). No problems tonight. ----------------- Given that we have begun the most wonderful time of the year (HALLOWEEN!!) I feel it is appropriate to leave you all with some interesting information. Now, I didn't come up with this myself; I will admit to finding this on the internet. However, it is rather informative especially out here in the southwest and at an observatory. In short, the day staff are cowboys and the night staff are witches. "Witches and cowboys are the same entity but just separated at night and day. - Big silly hats - Dangerous aura - Wands/guns - Midnight/High noon - Robes/Panchos - Stockings with boots/Chaps with boots - Magic incantations/ Yeehaws and slang - Brews potions / Brews alcohol - Rides brooms at night because horses are sleeping - Rides horses at day because brooms are recharging - Can't swim Furthermore, moonshine is an alcoholic potion brewed by witches and cowboys; "moon" to represent the Witching Hour, and "shine" for sunny High Noons. Rootin', tootin', toil n' shootin' Fire burn and cowboy bootin' Eye of newt and spicy beans Toe of frog and denim jeans Wiskey, grits, n'demon spittle tossed into my iron griddle With the tannin' of our hides Somethin' wicked this way rides" ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 55 44 7 199 (SSW) cloudy none 17:00 56 46 12 266 (W) cloudy none 18:00 53 48 6 266 (W) cloudy none 19:00 53 48 8 268 (W) cloudy none 20:00 50 32 8 356 (N) mstly cldy none 21:00 50 33 14 25 (NNE) cloudy none 22:00 51 34 14 356 (N) cloudy rain 23:00 51 33 6 355 (N) cloudy lt rain 00:00 49 35 9 322 (NW) cloudy lt rain 01:00 52 45 9 258 (WSW) cloudy rain 02:00 49 45 11 227 (SW) cloudy rain 03:00 49 33 2 261 (W) cloudy rain 04:00 51 43 1 159 (SSE) cloudy lt rain 05:00 51 43 4 287 (WNW) cloudy lt rain Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
