Clouds. Wind. Despair. We didn't think we were going to be able to open to night but, it cleared! However, it was very windy and we couldn’t point to the east for a few hours. Seeing wasn't good but our trainees got a good B half on their last night of observing. They were able to use both Tspec and Echelle on some bright targets AND see the Apollo laser in action. One of them even took a cool picture of the laser hitting a cloud! List of names have been sent to add to the trained list. The alt axis showed oscillations at az 312, alt 61 which could be seen in the Dataq. Arcsat gave us some problems when we opened, but a reboot seemed to solve the issue. I’m also very sad that this is going to be my last night for awhile. 10 weeks without my telescope….how will I manage?! :( :_( %_( With sad songs, I suppose. —————— Night slewing deserves a quiet night The TUI plots on the dashboard, loaded years ago Turned around backwards so the trainees show Every contrast reveals the picture in reverse Still, it's so much clearer I forgot my wrench at the table’s edge The moon is low tonight Night slewing deserves a quiet night I'm not sure all these people understand It's not like years ago The fear of getting stopped Of recklessness and windstorms They cannot see it shak’n These winds, they die away Replaced by Shutdown Day Night slewing, remembering tonight September's coming soon I'm pining for the moon And what if there were two Side by side in orbit Around the fairest sun? That bright, light laser strum Could not describe night slewing You, I know I’ll miss you You I cannot budge You, I think you grew me This one laughing quietly underneath your truss Night slewing... ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:50 tcamera 381( 1055) 256 70 13.8 15.2 16.0 15.3 14.2 -- 1.61 02:01 tcamera 482( 1096) 311 60 14.6 14.1 14.7 13.9 13.9 -- 2.30 02:01 tcamera 482( 1096) 311 60 14.6 14.1 14.7 13.9 13.9 -- 2.30 03:19 ecamera 440( -20) 53 72 13.1 13.3 14.0 13.4 13.3 ND1 1.38 04:03 APOLLO 350( 1606) 51 65 12.7 12.9 13.6 12.9 12.8 530 2.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 66 41 17 79 (E) 990 cloudy none 17:00 68 40 22 70 (ENE) 715 cloudy none 18:00 66 41 13 82 (E) 816 cloudy none 19:00 64 41 16 78 (ENE) 1382 cloudy none 20:00 62 41 16 66 (ENE) 1058 cloudy lt rain 21:00 59 45 28 69 (ENE) 2135 cloudy lt rain 22:00 60 43 15 82 (E) 1758 cloudy none 23:00 62 42 22 81 (E) 2504 cloudy none 00:00 61 42 22 83 (E) 2275 cloudy none 01:00 58 44 30 75 (ENE) 1694 ptly cldy none 02:00 57 44 26 73 (ENE) 1877 mstly clr none 03:00 59 42 21 56 (NE) 2325 mstly clr none 04:00 56 44 16 81 (E) 2647 mstly clr none 05:00 55 45 22 75 (ENE) 2893 mstly clr humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
