However, since the home switch had been replaced that meant we didn't have an exact reference for the mirror's position. I did a quick collimation check at sunset with ARCTIC, and I could tell that it wasn't perfect but was much improved from the previous night. I did not count this time as being taken away from UW14, because it was barely dark enough to focus on his first target by the time I was done. However, since there are many weeks to go until the next engineering time, I did take some time in the middle of the night to do a proper collimation update using the Shack-Hartmann. The recommended change was pretty significant so it will certainly improve image quality. I counted this time as engineering drop-in. In the morning I did a little more quick work on pointing, but once again this was during twilight that was too bright to be useful for science, so I didn't think it needed special accounting. Aside from all that, we had clear skies and good seeing first half, thin clouds and better seeing second half. Everything worked pretty well, although there was some noise on the echelle slitviewer - not bad enough to impede field identification or guiding. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:57 ecamera 431( 192) 141 75 16.8 18.0 18.2 17.5 16.8 Clear 0.84 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 72 27 29 255 (WSW) 1741 clear none 17:00 69 25 30 262 (W) 2206 clear none 18:00 69 26 29 261 (W) 1259 clear none 19:00 67 22 29 272 (W) 947 clear none 20:00 64 20 25 260 (W) 963 clear none 21:00 63 15 23 272 (W) 851 clear none 22:00 61 18 20 267 (W) 799 clear none 23:00 61 17 13 266 (W) 944 clear none 00:00 61 17 8 265 (W) 837 clear none 01:00 61 16 14 274 (W) 816 clear none 02:00 61 15 11 284 (WNW) 724 mstly clr none 03:00 60 15 13 268 (W) 706 mstly clr none 04:00 60 16 16 301 (WNW) 710 mstly clr none 05:00 60 17 13 308 (NW) 707 clear none 06:00 59 15 8 290 (WNW) 661 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
