Seeing was not horrible. The wind even dropped enough to allow the telescope to point west. Then the seeing got worse, the temperature plummeted, and precipitation started to menace us from the north. The second half program only got one good spectrum before the clouds rolled in and we closed. Then it started to snow. Yes, snow, completely unforecasted, a month on the sunny side of the equinox. It was just a short squall that left behind about half an inch of wet lumpy stuff on the grass, and also some more stuff on the dome. I could see it blowing off the edge of the roof. So even though the sky cleared and the humidity dropped, I declared it not safe to open because of the likelihood of getting semi-liquid water on the telescope. I parked the dome facing south to get plenty of sunshine during the day. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:25 arctic 602( 706) 77 66 3.6 4.9 6.2 4.4 3.7 sdss_g 1.66 19:29 arctic 599( 695) 76 67 3.5 4.9 6.1 4.4 3.7 sdss_r 1.66 22:32 arctic 538( 493) 204 68 1.8 2.1 3.0 2.1 2.1 658 1.31 22:35 arctic 550( 502) 206 67 1.9 2.1 2.9 2.1 2.0 sdss_r 1.35 00:22 dcamera 496( 226) 48 80 -0.6 0.7 1.6 0.7 -0.1 - 2.91 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 46 0 22 241 (WSW) 4119 clear none 17:00 45 -1 20 276 (W) 5347 clear dust 18:00 44 -2 25 288 (WNW) 2889 clear none 19:00 42 -1 27 267 (W) 4970 clear dust 20:00 39 3 20 285 (WNW) 3008 clear none 21:00 38 4 18 262 (W) 2810 clear none 22:00 36 7 15 269 (W) 3174 clear none 23:00 36 9 15 267 (W) 3344 clear none 00:00 36 10 16 290 (WNW) 2717 clear none 01:00 33 9 18 299 (WNW) 2298 clear none 02:00 30 18 20 16 (NNE) 1538 mstly cldy lt snow 03:00 28 25 22 12 (NNE) ptly cldy humid 04:00 30 20 18 335 (NNW) mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
