I did not consider this when I set the instrument after slewing. This was a large move for the secondary and it failed to move. There was then a great deal of screaming, panic, running, and calling Russet before we lost the first good sky on Mercury we've had in days. Because Russet is God, we only lost about 20min. We had good weather! Finally! And we saw Mercury! And Jupiter! and some cool super nova! Seeing could have been better but I’m not going to complain about moderate seeing. We *totally* saw aurora on Io. Guiding was so good that we guided on an eclipsed (invisible) object. It was a good night! ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JH07 D T/S 19:23 19:43 Secondary mirror homing ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:55 dcamera 495( 214) 120 54 0.5 0.3 0.9 0.2 0.2 -- 2.18 23:06 dcamera 443( 129) 285 64 -0.1 -0.2 0.4 -0.2 -0.2 -- 1.29 03:27 ecamera 397( -814) 3 40 -0.9 -1.5 -0.9 -1.4 -1.2 ND2 1.29 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 35 0 14 292 (WNW) 198 mstly clr none 17:00 35 0 11 301 (WNW) 146 mstly clr none 18:00 36 -1 11 278 (W) 187 clear none 19:00 33 -2 12 277 (W) 180 clear none 20:00 32 -1 10 302 (WNW) 213 clear none 21:00 33 -1 13 302 (WNW) 323 clear none 22:00 33 0 12 291 (WNW) 303 clear none 23:00 33 1 14 311 (NW) 336 clear none 00:00 32 0 4 335 (NNW) 298 clear none 01:00 31 0 11 356 (N) 454 clear none 02:00 33 1 13 359 (N) 167 clear none 03:00 31 1 14 337 (NNW) 236 clear none 04:00 30 1 4 347 (NNW) 216 clear none 05:00 30 2 10 331 (NNW) 239 clear none 06:00 30 1 6 330 (NNW) 237 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
