And, like Santa, we were busy working all night delivering gifts of photons and information. The sky started out clear, though clouds rolled in around 3am. We had good seeing all night. Engineering tasks that were done: - Restarting the hub and tcc. - Collected echelle targets for UW14 program. - Arctic throughput exposures - Shack-Hartman - Pointing model (not reduced yet!) - playedwiththeeyepiece DIS vacuum readings: UT bcam bpump rcam rpump 01:00 4.63E-6 2.56E-7 5.77E-6 2.50E-7 03:00 2.83E-6 1.58E-7 5.55E-6 1.50E-7 07:00 2.47E-6 1.56E-7 5.35E-6 3.70E-7 No problems tonight. ———————— Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the site Not a burner was empty, the stoves all alight The coffee was brewed by the oven with care In hopes that a Christmas feast soon would be there The obs specs they rustled all sniffing the breads While visions of apple-crumb danced in their heads And Russet as the Her-Chief, and I just a pap Had just settled our hopes on a long winter's snack When out in the galley there arose such a clatter I sprang from the room to see what was the matter Away to the kitchen I flew like a flash Tripped up on some butter, my head I did smash Such flames on the crust of the now-burning dough Gave the luster of mid-day to our chateau, Then, what to my terrified eyes should appear But a miniature fray of eight peeps struck with fear Not a little old fire, it's rising and thick I knew in a moment we must call Mark, quick! More rapid than eagles in corvette he came And he hollered, and shouted, and called us by name! "Now Candace! now, Kaike! now, Sarah and Russet! Grab water! Grab litter! Grab hoses and buckets! It is starting to scorch! It is climbing the wall! What have you done?! What's wrong with you all?!” As it leapt through the door and down the arcade did fly, And it met with no obstacle, shot for the sky, So up to the dome-top the pyre it flew, All the filters destroyed, and the instruments too! And then, in a crackling, it reached to the roof The burning and smoking and everything poof! As I screamed in my head, and about to breakdown To the rescue Fireman Mark came with a bound He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot A bundle of DIS he had flung on his back And he looked like a peddler, “you're all *so* getting sacked!” A hand then did grab me! What is this, how scary! Eyes open and closing, I felt rather harried With drool on my mouth and my mind a bit slow “It was all a dream; there is no fire aglow?” The queen of the site then said tight through her teeth “And what are you doing, are you sleeping? Good grief!” She showed not a trace of a fire all smokey, Just showed me her craft, it’s a bowlful of jelly! It was chubby and plump and made by herself, And I laughed when I saw her, in spite of myself! A squint of her eye and a shake of her head She sighed and I knew I had nothing to dread I spoke not a word, but went straight to my work And filled all the platters, then turned with a jerk “I cannot now linger, I need to expose!” All looked out east, there now Venus arose! I sprang to my seat, to Sarah gave a whistle And away we both slew like the speed of a missile But I heard Mark exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!" ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:07 ecamera 539( -393) 86 56 1.9 4.2 3.9 3.6 2.6 ND1 1.23 20:43 ecamera 614( -407) 184 66 3.3 2.6 3.5 3.0 3.0 clear 1.12 22:05 arctic 733( 713) 63 34 2.6 2.2 3.1 2.5 2.9 sdss-g 1.44 22:51 shack 900( 1267) 52 62 3.4 2.3 3.4 2.9 3.5 -- 1.20 00:11 arctic 800( 831) 27 54 4.1 3.5 3.9 3.7 4.1 sdss-z 0.76 04:22 ecamera 689( -343) 135 76 2.9 2.4 3.5 2.9 2.7 ND1 0.66 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 41 18 5 307 (NW) 54 clear none 17:00 39 18 6 296 (WNW) 61 clear none 18:00 39 18 9 304 (NW) 44 clear none 19:00 36 17 5 249 (WSW) 75 clear none 20:00 39 15 7 263 (W) 118 clear none 21:00 36 17 9 237 (WSW) 138 clear none 22:00 38 16 17 233 (SW) 126 clear none 23:00 39 10 16 266 (W) 53 clear none 00:00 40 15 15 263 (W) 80 mstly clr none 01:00 38 14 15 235 (SW) 82 mstly clr none 02:00 39 14 13 236 (SW) 131 mstly clr none 03:00 38 13 16 205 (SSW) 86 mstly clr none 04:00 37 15 23 221 (SW) 136 ptly cldy none 05:00 37 15 18 208 (SSW) 147 ptly cldy none 06:00 37 14 21 208 (SSW) 161 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
