I just slewed to a focus star and focused there, so not sure why the fault. It happened when my observer slewed. TUI reported BadAzStatus and a motion error. Rot was also giving a motion error, but I am not sure if that was real or because the drive stopped during the slew. I spent two hours trying various things (controller resets, small slews, talk2box slews, etc) but it seemed to fault when we would slew with TUI. After consulting with Russet (after I exhausted all my tricks) she tried a few slews and the drives almost immediately faulted (and a few run-a-ways too). Come to find out the umbilical for NICFPS had got caught on a bracked on the railing. This would bind when the instruemnt rotated in TUI (and was bound when Russet tried her slews) causing the faults. Unfortunately the 1st half observers time was over. Fortunately we did not loose much time on the last program and got onto the sky quickly with TSPEC. Since NICFPS has been on site I have never had it catch on this bracket, but the dry nitrogen tank had been removed for usage with DIS and this caused the cable to snag and I simply didn't notice. Russet did some NICFPS checks and it seems to be fine and functional. The rest of the night was uneventful. My observer finished a little early as his targets were getting too low to observe. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW13 N T/H 22:30 00:40 Drive motion errors, eventually found the NICFPS umbilical cable was caught on a bracket to hold the dry N bottle ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:14 ecamera 724( -47) -109 71 4.6 7.4 7.2 7.0 5.4 ND3 1.20 18:48 arctic 743( 853) 42 50 4.1 5.0 5.3 4.5 4.2 sdss_r 1.60 18:51 NA2gdr 9649(39649) 41 51 3.9 4.9 5.2 4.4 4.2 R 1.80 22:28 NICFPS 775( 1211) -41 44 4.7 4.4 4.8 4.5 4.7 H 1.16 00:45 tcamera 815( 921) 93 61 4.9 4.0 4.4 4.1 4.2 Ks 1.14 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 45 5 8 270 (W) 369 clear none 17:00 42 0 9 268 (W) 77 clear none 18:00 40 12 9 259 (W) 572 clear none 19:00 39 9 16 255 (WSW) 410 clear none 20:00 39 7 16 235 (SW) 348 clear none 21:00 41 6 17 246 (WSW) 271 clear none 22:00 40 7 16 268 (W) 309 clear none 23:00 40 9 15 273 (W) 473 clear none 00:00 40 10 16 281 (W) 386 clear none 01:00 41 11 20 290 (WNW) 297 clear none 02:00 40 11 13 262 (W) 246 clear none 03:00 40 10 17 289 (WNW) 235 clear none 04:00 41 11 18 293 (WNW) 214 clear none 05:00 39 10 12 272 (W) 230 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
