At 20:05 the rotator seemed to randomly fail. This is the second time it's happened recently (the time before was over Christmas but on that occasion all axes failed). I lost about 10 min resetting it and then, about an hour later, realized that I missed the angle when I reset and we took another 18 min fixing the set point angle. I sent out a PR. The weather was, of course, bad but not the bad we were promised. Where's my snow?! We had clouds all night but were able to punch through kinda for CU05. NM04 was a total wash, I couldn't even find the target even with long binned ecam images. UW10 had a little more luck with their bright stars but we were open less than 2 hours before I got nervous about clouds and then the wind was gusting over 40 mph. ARCSAT went on a slew adventure (but only in it's head). It kept reporting that it was slewing when it wasn't. I just disconnected and reconnected the telescope from Chrome and everything was fine. ————— I was going to rewrite the "I Feel Pretty" song to describe all the snow we were set to receive. However, the lyrics were turning a bit more...colorful given the rotator issues and my anger over the lack of snow. I figured I shouldn't kick the year off with a visit to HR so...no song tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU05 R T/S 20:05 20:16 Rotator communication failure CU05 R T/S 21:08 21:26 Rotator reset angle ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:53 arctic 483( 756) 200 43 7.9 8.0 8.1 8.1 7.8 UNM-657 1.29 18:36 arctic 508( 738) 249 48 6.2 7.2 7.6 7.3 6.5 UNM-657 1.30 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 45 19 12 252 (WSW) 171 cloudy none 17:00 43 22 5 237 (WSW) 268 cloudy none 18:00 46 12 15 245 (WSW) 89 mstly cldy none 19:00 41 25 7 190 (S) 835 mstly cldy none 20:00 44 24 17 262 (W) 108 mstly cldy none 21:00 42 20 8 273 (W) 169 mstly cldy none 22:00 44 19 17 237 (WSW) 258 mstly cldy none 23:00 44 20 17 221 (SW) 279 mstly cldy none 00:00 42 21 12 189 (S) 420 mstly cldy none 01:00 42 21 21 242 (WSW) 584 mstly cldy none 02:00 42 21 15 211 (SSW) 583 mstly cldy none 03:00 41 24 15 227 (SW) 483 mstly cldy none 04:00 40 24 17 216 (SW) 648 mstly cldy none 05:00 38 26 29 245 (WSW) 656 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
