The winds were high in the afternoon but dropped as soon as sunset hit. However, they picked up again around 3 am. I stayed open as long as I could but I closed when gusts reached 40 mph. WY04 was having a lot of connection problems and her TUI kept crashing (she was running 2.5.1 on Linux 3.10) so I ended up running her obs for her. It's not easy trying to communicate the desired slit position on a galaxy you can't see! The heater in the control room died, so that was fun. But after closing the dome in -10 C with 40 mph winds, the control room was practically baking! Unlike it's name suggests, ARCTIC doesn't seem to desire the cold. It started heating up when the temperature outside was hitting -10 C. We closed the stairwell door and turned off the Int Exhaust fan and that helped for a while but it is still slowly heating up. Hopefully things won’t be so cold and windy tomorrow. -------- You're as cold as ice You're willing to sacrifice our light You always cut n'slice Someday you'll be so nice, I know I've seen it before It happens all the time (not really), Closing the door We leave the sky behind. We're cursing the cold, winds blowing away our fortune in seeing, To open we'll pray. You're as cold as ice, You're gusting to shake, push, and shove, tracking imprecise, But Monday you'll be so nice, I know ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:11 dcamera 168( -402) 136 53 -7.6 -5.4 -4.3 -5.2 -7.2 -- 2.09 21:20 dcamera 580( -219) 187 70 -9.5 -9.7 -8.9 -9.7 -9.6 -- 1.78 23:43 ecamera 485(-1181) -13 54 -10.1 -10.2 -9.6 -10.1 -10.1 ND1 1.63 00:21 dcamera 518( -315) 110 60 -10.5 -10.5 -9.8 -10.4 -10.4 -- 1.76 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 24 6 27 284 (WNW) 2271 ptly cldy none 17:00 21 4 4 270 (W) 1351 mstly clr none 18:00 19 2 23 316 (NW) 1276 clear none 19:00 17 2 4 344 (NNW) 432 clear none 20:00 16 3 10 8 (N) 399 clear none 21:00 14 4 6 359 (N) 277 clear none 22:00 15 3 16 355 (N) 216 clear none 23:00 14 4 18 10 (N) 323 clear none 00:00 13 4 14 39 (NE) 226 clear none 01:00 13 4 21 356 (N) 202 clear none 02:00 13 3 21 23 (NNE) 207 clear none 03:00 13 1 22 11 (N) 198 clear none 04:00 14 -1 34 15 (NNE) 136 clear none 05:00 14 -2 28 26 (NNE) 126 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
