We had a problem with ARCTIC mis-aligning the filters tonight. Took me about 45 mins to diagnose the problem. (I counted it as 0.4 hrs loss as they could not finish their flats before the start of their program and we needed to go into twilight time. One of the filter screws was about 2mm too long and sticking out the back of the filter plate which caused all the problems. Unfortunately, after I removed the long screw and replaced it with a shorter one, the sensor then would not read the wheel correctly. It kept reporting as filter wheel #3. I fudged this by simply copying filter wheel #7 filters to wheel #3 and we were good to go. We closed at 05:00 due to high winds (and clouds too, but mostly wind) and my observers last and only target was pointing directly into the wind. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:29 arctic 979( 1168) 168 69 8.1 10.7 10.3 10.7 9.6 sdss_i 1.10 18:31 NA2gdr 2874(36874) 168 69 7.9 10.6 10.3 10.5 9.4 clear 1.30 00:22 dcamera 799( 636) -40 49 6.4 6.4 6.9 6.6 6.5 -- 1.40 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 52 21 13 254 (WSW) 97 clear none 17:00 50 22 21 264 (W) 105 clear none 18:00 46 22 24 235 (SW) 73 clear none 19:00 46 23 20 237 (WSW) 73 clear none 20:00 45 24 15 263 (W) 78 mstly clr none 21:00 44 24 9 268 (W) 83 clear none 22:00 44 25 13 258 (WSW) 57 mstly clr none 23:00 45 25 27 217 (SW) 84 mstly clr none 00:00 44 25 21 232 (SW) 106 mstly clr none 01:00 41 25 18 241 (WSW) ptly cldy none 02:00 41 27 22 267 (W) 165 ptly cldy none 03:00 41 27 21 256 (WSW) 309 ptly cldy none 04:00 39 28 28 254 (WSW) 215 ptly cldy none 05:00 39 27 39 244 (WSW) 150 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
