Slewing to a focus star was fine but GS01 noticed that their target was well below the slit, and at one point was out of the FOV. During change over, I cleaned the drives and there was some moth bits stuck on Az and Alt, though the position was just off in alt. I tried troubling shooting it for a little bit before calling Russet. We updated the pointing and everything was good for the remainder of UV02. When we moved to the echelle for NM05 we had more problems. I must have either incorrectly repointed the telescope or there were more moth bits or other problems occurred as I was not able to get on NM05's target. I thought I had the pointing correct but after the star was examined (after NM07 started) it was found to be incorrect, thus, I wrote off all of NM05 as Failure. When we switched to NM07 we thought we were on the correct target again but, about 30 minutes later, found we were off. I tried repointing the telescope again and found it was off by nearly 2.5'. I believe we were always off by this amount when we began NM05. I was able to, finally, correct it. Given we were off in the first 30min of NM07, even though we were exposing, I wrote that as time lost to failure as well. NM07 stopped their sky observing at 06:00 and I was able to find NM05's target and took a 15min exposure, for what it's worth. The dome doors did not make any sounds when I opened at sunset but the right dome door make some groaning sounds when I closed at sunrise. Hopefully we don’t run into the same pointing problem tomorrow…. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UV02 D T/H 18:08 18:48 Incorrect pointing NM05 E T/H 00:10 00:40 Incorrect pointing NM07 E T/H 00:40 01:29 Incorrect pointing ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:47 dcamera 620( 190) 5 66 -3.3 -2.5 -2.6 -2.5 -3.2 -- 1.36 19:18 dcamera 534( 127) -179 33 -2.1 -2.5 -2.3 -2.4 -2.1 -- 2.17 00:15 ecamera 341( -833) 42 47 -0.1 -0.7 -0.2 -0.5 -0.4 Clear 1.66 01:33 ecamera 346( -839) -2 63 -0.5 -0.7 -0.1 -0.5 -0.5 Clear 1.38 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 27 9 2 5 (N) 379 clear none 17:00 27 8 2 41 (NE) 347 mstly clr none 18:00 27 9 19 9 (N) 375 clear none 19:00 28 8 27 31 (NNE) 378 clear none 20:00 30 6 27 56 (NE) 412 clear none 21:00 31 4 29 48 (NE) 480 clear none 22:00 32 4 17 52 (NE) 441 clear none 23:00 32 3 15 37 (NE) 609 clear none 00:00 32 2 15 20 (NNE) 582 clear none 01:00 33 6 5 42 (NE) 269 clear none 02:00 31 6 3 41 (NE) 215 clear none 03:00 31 6 12 18 (NNE) 216 clear none 04:00 33 6 15 25 (NNE) 233 clear none 05:00 32 7 6 88 (E) 184 clear none 06:00 32 7 10 26 (NNE) 268 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
