A simple restart of the nubs fixed this problem at least. I also did more in depth rebooting of TSPEC but still no go at the moment with TSPEC But it does seem to be writing images, just not putting them into the normal export/images directory. Guy Stringfellow notices a subtle bug in the IRSC display of telescope position for the 3.5m and 0.5m telescope (they were using both to observe the same field). PR submitted. He is requesting Chocolate Macadamia nut cookies as a reward payment for finding this bug!
