It ruined exposures until nearly midnight, after which things finally cleared and seeing was good. During CU05 we had a rotator problem. The user was not able to slew and the following error was given: 2017-12-26 03:05:38 APO.Candace 266 tcc f text="Slew failed: Sub-command(s) failed: DRIFT: Timed out" When we logged into talk2boxes the tcc_rot1 was not responding. We tried resetting the na2-rotator but that didn't help. Finally we reset the tcc and then everything worked fine. We lost about 20 min. ------------------- It came upon the midnight clear, Those treacherous clouds they rolled, >From cirrus bending near the earth To take our light we scold! Cease of your mirth, counts down to ten, For heaven's sake end this scheme! The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the users scream. Still through the cloven skies they come, With evil wings unfurled, And still the westerly jet stream flies O'er all our weary world; Above our sad and ignored pains, They bend on fluffy wing. And ever o'er the beeping sounds The lost photons do sting. And with the woes of spin and strife John B hath suffered long; Because the angle-strain we rolled twenty minutes of wrong; And man at C with U hears not The panic which this brings: O hush the noise, obs spec of strife, And hear the Russet queen. For lo! the night is hastening on, And weather boards foretold, When, with the ever-clearing skies, Shall come the stars once stole; When dawn shall cover all the site Its ancient photons sting, And all the world obs specs will yawn, And in their beds they will spring. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU05 R I/S 20:03 20:26 Lost communication with rotator ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:39 dcamera 493( 507) -13 51 6.4 6.0 6.2 6.0 6.3 -- 1.46 18:38 arctic 543( 696) 240 40 5.8 5.7 6.0 5.7 5.7 UNM-657 1.17 21:03 arctic 505( 615) 215 56 5.3 5.0 5.6 5.1 5.2 UNM-657 0.76 00:45 ecamera 369( -506) -12 24 5.2 4.8 5.5 4.9 5.0 clear 1.43 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 42 5 17 294 (WNW) 534 mstly cldy none 17:00 43 7 14 277 (W) 495 mstly cldy none 18:00 42 7 18 268 (W) 683 mstly cldy none 19:00 42 5 15 260 (W) 731 mstly cldy none 20:00 42 3 11 264 (W) 650 mstly cldy none 21:00 41 -1 17 295 (WNW) 584 mstly cldy none 22:00 42 -4 14 288 (WNW) 525 mstly cldy none 23:00 42 -3 14 284 (WNW) 502 mstly clr none 00:00 42 -4 17 297 (WNW) 451 clear none 01:00 42 -2 20 295 (WNW) 536 clear none 02:00 42 -2 20 294 (WNW) 373 clear none 03:00 41 -3 17 268 (W) 311 clear none 04:00 41 -2 13 265 (W) 262 clear none 05:00 40 -4 12 267 (W) 246 clear none 06:00 41 -5 18 293 (WNW) 259 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
