We had some thin clouds tonight, but never enough to prevent observations, and there were also some very clear patches. Sadly, the seeing was never better than moderate. A ToO program got some time in the first half of the night for a transient target. During APOLLO, there were a couple of motion errors on the altitude axis (altitude position in the mid-sixties). When I went up and cleaned the drive surface there were some moth traces, but not as much as I would expect in order to have tracking trouble. Then a couple of hours later something similar happened on azimuth; two motion errors, and I cleaned a little bit of moth off the drive but not much. Perhaps it was a combination of moths plus the changing temperatures? ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AP01 A T/H 00:46 00:55 moth guts on alt drive UW09 E T/H 04:06 04:19 moth guts on az drive ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:41 arctic 486( 794) 48 53 8.3 8.8 9.4 8.6 8.3 SDSS_r 1.70 19:32 ecamera 300( -385) -58 29 9.2 8.6 9.1 8.7 9.0 ND3 1.82 00:15 APOLLO 350( 1360) 54 65 8.1 8.1 8.6 8.1 8.1 530 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 54 35 25 253 (WSW) 155 clear none 17:00 50 32 23 268 (W) 199 clear none 18:00 48 34 22 239 (WSW) 187 clear none 19:00 47 32 21 243 (WSW) 194 mstly clr none 20:00 48 30 19 251 (WSW) 132 mstly clr none 21:00 48 32 21 272 (W) 157 mstly clr none 22:00 49 31 20 272 (W) 150 clear none 23:00 47 31 17 262 (W) 172 clear none 00:00 47 30 25 251 (WSW) 179 mstly clr none 01:00 46 30 19 265 (W) 205 mstly clr none 02:00 46 30 18 261 (W) 207 ptly cldy none 03:00 46 30 15 268 (W) 177 ptly cldy none 04:00 45 30 19 264 (W) 211 ptly cldy none 05:00 45 30 16 267 (W) 220 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
