Reset fixed but only for 1 or two exposures, then the error came back. Outside temps were at -8.5C (inside dome temps is currently down). I am pretty sure it is a temperature related issue as we are very near the -10C limit from last year where we experienced this failure mode. Candace was using ARCTIC earlier (-6 to -7C) with no problems but they switched to Echelle for the last part of their program so they never experienced the shutter problem. I reset the shutter, so it is in a working state but temp were too low to use for the AD02 program. I offered other instruments for their use (specifically DIS) but by the time we finished trying to get the shutter to behave they felt there would not be enough time to do DIS cals and get useful science. Not sure how to account for the time loss tonight. I accounted it as time loss due to equipment but it could also just as easily be swayed to count it as weather loss (too cold causing the instrument failure mode, but clear sky) . CU05 started a few minutes early with DIS since AD02 could not use ARCTIC due to cold temperatures (-9.3C). DIS had no cold weather related issues and we collected lots of photons. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AD02 R I/H 21:10 00:10 Shutter error, most likely due to cold.
