We were faced with clouds, clouds, clouds all night long. I didn't even think we'd get on sky but, somehow, we were open and observing nearly all night!! JH01 threw in the towel at 05:45 when all their bright targets were too dim and all that was available was Jupiter and the Moon. We did some ridiculous observations tonight with the echelle, adding multiple filters while chasing Venus and then swamping out slits for the second observer. While it was cloudy all night, the seeing was great! We were sub-arcsecond or close to it. However, we expect clouds, rain, and snow for the rest of the week (killing the Venus run). ======================== Given the great success of the filters in the echelle, I felt the observations were successful even through clouds! If you've played Portal then you'll recognize the end credit song (if you haven't, you should watch the end credits on the internet, it's quite funny and a great game). This was a triumph I'm making a note here; "Huge success" It's hard to overstate my satisfaction APO Science: We do what we must because we can For the good of all of us Except the ones still in bed But there's no sense crying over every tough break You just keep on trying till you run out of cake And the science gets done And you have a lota fun with the people who are still awake I'm not even angry I'm being so sincere right now Even though it broke my great Ven-us spree And tore it to pieces And threw every piece into a fire As it burned it hurt because, Flux, all I wanted was you Now, these points of data make a beautiful line Can hardly see Vega Yet we opened on time So I'm GLaD I got spurned think of all the things we learned- for the people who are still awake Try again, why don't we? I think I'd prefer to stay on sky Maybe we’ll find something else to slew to? Maybe to Vega? That was a joke *Haha – it's set* Anyway this cake is great It's so delicious and moist Look at me still talking when there's science to do When I look out there, it makes me want to go “eww!” I've experiments to run There is research to be done With the people who are still awake And believe me I am still awake I'm doing science and I'm still awake I feel fantastic and I'm still awake While you're sleeping I'll be still awake And when you're gone I will be still awake Still awake Still awake ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:01 ecamera 686( -564) -80 61 5.1 5.9 5.8 5.9 5.6 clear 1.17 19:36 ecamera 600( -640) -86 27 5.7 5.5 5.9 5.6 5.7 clear 1.07 20:54 ecamera 847( -425) 19 61 5.9 5.5 5.9 5.6 5.8 ND1 0.76 01:08 ecamera 839( -435) -22 49 5.7 5.3 5.7 5.4 5.6 clear 0.99 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 41 22 11 184 (S) 188 cloudy none 17:00 41 21 13 217 (SW) 147 cloudy none 18:00 41 22 14 208 (SSW) 92 cloudy none 19:00 43 15 16 206 (SSW) 137 cloudy none 20:00 42 9 21 197 (SSW) 211 cloudy none 21:00 42 3 18 202 (SSW) 252 cloudy none 22:00 43 -1 17 193 (SSW) 253 cloudy none 23:00 42 -2 13 210 (SSW) 246 cloudy none 00:00 42 1 12 176 (S) 292 cloudy none 01:00 42 9 13 184 (S) 343 cloudy none 02:00 42 13 15 217 (SW) 539 cloudy none 03:00 42 14 15 186 (S) 595 cloudy none 04:00 42 12 19 207 (SSW) 448 cloudy none 05:00 42 14 18 208 (SSW) 258 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
