The weather was clear, calm, mostly dry, with moderate seeing, but there were several issues tonight. The cast of failures, in order of appearance, are: ---Echelle--- The slit viewer was partially blocked. Russet and I worked on moving the filter wheel and the cal mirror but to no avail, we could not solve the problem and it solved itself. ThAr also showed low counts during checkout but the IOL was fine. ---ARCTIC--- At 23:08 I tried using the new focus script tonight but it would not work. It worked during engineering the other night but it would hang on exposures and I ended up focusing manually. When I dismounted ARCTIC at 01:16 one of the inserts for the supports did not go in correctly (my error) and the cart and instrument were torqued. It took several minutes to unmount the cart and correctly dismount the instrument. ---NICFPS--- At 05:33, after a slew, CU01 observer could not take an exposure. There error stated was "Leach controller Initialization Failed." The problem was resolved after resetting the NICFPS ICS. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AD02 R I/S 23:08 23:26 Script failed to execute AP01 A I/H 01:16 01:22 ARCTIC cart wedged CU01 N I/S 05:33 05:58 NICFPS ICS needed restart ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:52 ecamera 854( 44) 110 52 12.1 14.4 14.6 13.7 13.6 ND1 1.47 19:57 ecamera 728( -165) 123 75 12.1 13.0 13.4 12.5 12.5 Clear 1.22 19:57 ecamera 728( -165) 123 75 12.1 13.0 13.4 12.5 12.5 Clear 1.22 00:26 APOLLO 550( 1569) 4 73 12.9 12.3 12.8 12.1 12.4 553 1.10 03:04 NICFPS 644( 1221) -100 62 11.4 11.3 11.9 11.2 11.2 MK-H 0.66 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 63 33 8 192 (SSW) 381 mstly clr none 17:00 62 31 16 256 (WSW) 458 mstly clr none 18:00 62 31 18 239 (WSW) 417 clear none 19:00 57 28 14 263 (W) 483 clear none 20:00 55 21 13 244 (WSW) 586 clear none 21:00 54 21 3 244 (WSW) 613 clear none 22:00 55 19 9 259 (W) 632 clear none 23:00 56 17 9 252 (WSW) 535 clear none 00:00 57 19 10 220 (SW) 571 clear none 01:00 55 19 8 197 (SSW) 544 clear none 02:00 54 20 8 186 (S) 634 clear none 03:00 54 20 7 178 (S) 632 clear none 04:00 53 25 10 182 (S) 691 clear none 05:00 52 42 17 162 (SSE) 1035 clear none 06:00 51 46 15 160 (SSE) 1113 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
