And when sunset came, the fog extended not-very-catlike tentacles towards us. And then it stopped, taunting us, with one dewpoint sensor above the limit and one just below. And I considered our warm telescope and our history of almost never getting frost on the telescope, and also the forecast which said it would get worse later, and I decided to go for it while the telescope was still warm. And as soon as I opened, the forces of goodness and dry air surged into battle and forced the fog to retreat! Or something like that, anyway. I opened on borderline conditions and stayed open the rest of the night with much nivcer conditions. Seeing started out bad but got better later on. Everything worked well, even ARCSAT. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:54 dcamera 564( 192) 221 76 -2.9 2.6 4.5 2.5 2.5 - 2.97 01:21 arctic 514( 162) 152 56 1.8 -0.2 0.5 -0.2 0.2 r 1.50 03:17 ecamera 623( -913) 94 57 2.0 0.2 0.9 0.3 0.6 ND1 1.22 05:14 APOLLO 450( 898) 89 31 1.8 0.5 1.1 0.4 0.6 530 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 49 19 25 213 (SSW) 2236 mstly clr none 17:00 43 18 13 264 (W) 2410 mstly clr none 18:00 44 22 6 256 (WSW) 2579 mstly clr none 19:00 36 25 7 70 (ENE) 890 mstly clr none 20:00 28 26 6 90 (E) 406 mstly clr humid 21:00 27 24 13 77 (ENE) 236 clear humid 22:00 26 23 14 75 (ENE) 396 clear humid 23:00 33 19 1 165 (SSE) 1414 clear none 00:00 35 20 2 87 (E) 1252 clear none 01:00 35 20 1 70 (ENE) 1262 clear none 02:00 33 21 3 351 (N) 2623 clear none 03:00 37 23 6 302 (WNW) 3354 clear none 04:00 37 24 6 329 (NNW) 3483 clear none 05:00 36 24 5 353 (N) 3108 clear none 06:00 36 24 1 323 (NW) 3127 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
