The observers continued trying to take data for most of the period but it was a struggle. An additional problem was that the onsite observers (and also my own laptop) kept losing the image portion of the TUI connection, so that we couldn't get more than about 100 slitviewer images in a row. We did not all lose our downloads at the same time(s), but we did all experience similar frequency. Fortunately, the permanent machine for the obs-specs was not experiencing the same problem so we were able to work around it easily enough. Just when the observers were about ready to give up from the clouds, there was a crash of the hub program. Restarts were unsuccessful. I phoned Jon Brinkmann and he eventually traced the problem to a simple lamp command that got hung up for some reason and locked up a comm port. Once this was cleared the hub was able to be restarted normally. Second half the clouds got thicker and it was never worth trying to go on sky. When I opened covers to move to the park position at the beginning of twilight, the TR3 mirror cover failed to open fully, and so set 2 remained completely closed. The Enclosure window listed the cover state as Open, but fortunately I checked before slewing. This occured at an altitude of 68 degrees. When I cycled the covers again they worked normally. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GS04 D T/S 22:16 22:42 hub got hung up ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:30 dcamera 430( 473) 164 69 8.4 10.7 10.4 10.6 9.6 - 1.11 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 49 15 7 298 (WNW) 582 ptly cldy none 17:00 49 17 2 252 (WSW) 562 ptly cldy none 18:00 47 16 7 306 (NW) 566 ptly cldy none 19:00 48 11 8 288 (WNW) 403 ptly cldy none 20:00 47 10 4 332 (NNW) 242 ptly cldy none 21:00 46 13 1 250 (WSW) 329 ptly cldy none 22:00 47 14 2 353 (N) 229 mstly cldy none 23:00 47 16 2 202 (SSW) 589 mstly cldy none 00:00 47 17 2 229 (SW) 630 mstly cldy none 01:00 47 17 2 211 (SSW) 641 mstly cldy none 02:00 47 16 1 226 (SW) 461 cloudy none 03:00 47 17 1 227 (SW) 483 cloudy none 04:00 47 17 3 198 (SSW) 551 cloudy none 05:00 47 16 1 141 (SE) 307 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
