It was a rough race but the students performed admirably. Ryan McCabe and Jacob Gunnerson are now trained on 3.5m. Unsurprisingly, I must have been bad this year because the second after the Venus program ended, the humidity dropped and seeing became subarcsec. Worse than coal! After switching out ARCTIC filter wheels for AD02, I homed the wheel on the dome, observed it spin and set in place, but we did not see the filter update in the ARCTIC window. The wheel would not rehome a second time and appeared to be stuck even after I pulled it out and spun it. I placed the r filter in place and let AD02 take their data since that was the only filter they needed. I took the filter wheel out and tried another wheel and moving it around, hubs restart, ICC restart, and finally, an init. Nothing worked and the UL quad dropped out. I wrote up a PR. The rest of the night went well, a clear Christmas Eve night, but the humidity was rather high all night, though never as bad as the beginning of the night. -------- As this log is technically being sent on Christmas Eve and is my last log with our current APO director, please grant me this ridiculously long and silly nightlog poem (I promise I will never write one this long again). *Clear throat* 'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the site, Not a dewpoint was dropping; no Venus this night. The students did nap at computers with dare In hopes that their advisor soon would not care. The post-docs were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of NASA funds danced in their heads. And midnigh' on the clockface, sat I on my mat, Had just settled my pose for a long yoga cat. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my lunge to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like the Flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the glass, The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow, Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below; When what to my wondering eyes should inspect, But a hybrid Prius and four tired obs-specs! With a cheery new driver, so lively with glee I knew in a moment it must be Nancy! More rapid than ceph'ids her courses they came, And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: “Now Russet! Now Karen! Now Gordon and Candace! To comets! To quasars! Pulsars and planets! To the doors of your dome, quick now open them all! Now slew away! Slew away! Slew away all!” Like a leaf on the wind the ready obs-specs did fly, They met no wet air obstacle; get on the sky! So up to the dome floor the obs-specs they flew With their lungs out of breath - even Chanover too. And then with a inkling, I knew what this meant Through prancing and squee-ing we knew who'd been sent. >From the news in the Fall, we were ready to cry, Down from chairman, Dr. Suzanne stepped with a sigh. We were dressed all in fear, from our heart to our mind, Even close to her equal, oh never we'll find! Then bundle of nerves were flung from our back, As we saw our new director start feeding our pack! The pies – how they tasted! From Cloudcroft, how merry! The crust was like velvet, this one full o' cherry; And what's inside this box here drawn up with a bow? Why, it's soft and it's sweet and white as the snow! And then we all gasped, pie still stuck to our teeth, “My God, is that monkey bread and shaped like a wreath?!” The look on our face, when she pulled off the celli, It shook when she laughed 'And a bowl full of jelly!' (apple) It was chunky and plump, like right off a shelf, And I laugh’d when I saw all in front of myself. And scared though we were for a new APO head She gave us to know we had nothing to dread. She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work, “How do you do it all?!” - she merely turned with a smirk. We mounted her filter to NA2 port “But what does it do?” 'It makes music! ...of sort.' She typed up her field, to her team gave a whistle And away we all slewed, like a White Sands small missile And I heard her exclaim, as Jup came in to sight, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a great night! ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AD02 R I/U 20:17 20:34 Filter wheel not updating ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:37 arctic 747( 558) -29 21 -0.3 2.5 3.6 2.3 0.7 sdss-z 1.49 20:41 arctic 686( 375) 108 83 0.7 0.9 2.3 0.7 0.3 sdss-r 0.80 22:30 ecamera 745( -776) -73 37 1.0 0.2 0.9 0.5 0.2 -- 0.98 03:50 ecamera 845( -649) -105 37 1.1 0.8 1.2 0.9 0.5 -- 2.02 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 37 33 13 284 (WNW) ptly cldy humid 17:00 33 31 11 266 (W) ptly cldy humid 18:00 32 28 11 270 (W) clear humid 19:00 32 30 11 272 (W) clear humid 20:00 32 25 7 284 (WNW) clear none 21:00 33 22 8 266 (W) 221 clear none 22:00 33 19 8 285 (WNW) 183 clear none 23:00 34 16 6 221 (SW) 198 clear none 00:00 32 24 7 202 (SSW) 237 clear none 01:00 34 26 6 255 (WSW) 275 clear none 02:00 34 25 10 255 (WSW) 271 clear none 03:00 34 23 4 216 (SW) 230 clear none 04:00 34 24 10 221 (SW) 295 clear none 05:00 35 24 14 257 (WSW) 278 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
