However, the humidity was just low enough to cheat death and we opened. It hovered near 90% most of A-half and we closed twice. Then, a visit from Jack Frost. He kicked up his feet by our instruments after midnight and we remained shut the rest of the night after closing at 01:43. There were a few teasers of the humidity pretending to drop below 85% but it never lasted very long. The sky was clear and seeing was good while we were opened. Apollo has been having problems so AP01 donated their time to AD02. I removed the Apollo time and wrote in the extra hour (23:10 - 00:10) as being used by AD02. Due to the quick frost, I did not put the telescope in park, I stopped the drives and immediately closed the mirror coves and closed the dome. Conditions did not improve enough before dawn to allow be to open the mirror inside the dome and slew to park. Conclusion: Jack Frost is a jerk. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:51 ecamera 874( -531) -166 77 1.2 3.0 2.7 2.9 1.2 -- 0.80 18:50 ecamera 769( -682) -120 58 1.1 1.9 2.0 1.8 0.7 -- 0.94 23:19 arctic 718( 364) -135 79 2.6 0.1 0.8 0.0 0.3 SDSS-r 1.02 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 36 32 5 273 (W) clear none 17:00 36 32 5 258 (WSW) 688 clear none 18:00 34 30 6 228 (SW) clear none 19:00 35 29 7 188 (S) clear none 20:00 34 30 4 200 (SSW) clear none 21:00 34 30 3 206 (SSW) clear none 22:00 34 30 3 220 (SW) clear humid 23:00 36 20 1 229 (SW) 434 clear none 00:00 33 30 5 251 (WSW) clear humid 01:00 33 31 3 287 (WNW) clear humid 02:00 33 27 5 349 (N) 601 clear humid 03:00 33 30 2 15 (NNE) clear humid 04:00 33 28 6 358 (N) clear humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
