The satellite TV did drop out for part of the presidential debate. The clouds started to clear around midnight but humidity spiked at the same time. Then the humidity came down long enough to persuade me to open... only to have clouds form directly overhead. We were at Mothcon 2 before the storm, and Mothageddon during/after the storm. I estimate that I killed about 2 kilomoths, but there were many many more remaining. Perhaps the effort was not in vain, since the telescope was able to move without problems when we opened, indicating there were more moths in the trap than in the telescope drives. But this was very bad. If an observing specialist mysteriously disappears during an upcoming night, it might be necessary to notify Mothbusters. A moth or moths inside the echelle box interfered with echelle checkout and the first observer's cals, although eventually we were able to get all the necessary images - along with some lovely snapshots of hairy legs draped across the slit. Triplespec was still unhappy, so I left it powered off for the night again. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 01:20 dcamera 501( 454) -30 75 8.7 9.0 10.8 8.7 9.0 - 1.21 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 55 47 15 232 (SW) 342 ptly cldy none 17:00 52 47 8 215 (SW) 319 mstly cldy none 18:00 50 46 8 210 (SSW) mstly cldy none 19:00 50 48 14 215 (SW) cloudy rain 20:00 49 47 11 164 (SSE) cloudy rain 21:00 42 39 19 58 (ENE) cloudy rain 22:00 44 41 23 12 (NNE) cloudy lt rain 23:00 47 38 8 264 (W) 264 mstly cldy none 00:00 47 46 9 194 (SSW) ptly cldy none 01:00 48 38 4 189 (S) 248 ptly cldy none 02:00 46 40 6 177 (S) 261 ptly cldy none 03:00 47 41 2 187 (S) ptly cldy humid 04:00 46 42 6 203 (SSW) ptly cldy none 05:00 46 45 7 221 (SW) ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
