Russet checked the altitude magnasensors Russet then checked to see if we could do an altitude focus sweep, seeing wasn't quite stable enough yet. This was low priority and needed good and stable seeing conditions. I went up to load and Ha filter and some ND filters into the Agile for an occultation of Aldeberan later tonight. Russet was getting SH ready while I did that. Arctic autofocus testing Hammered the autofocus script pretty good. It never hung the camera. Just the one manual star selection/sub-frame bug. Setting Full frame on the images reset it back to full frame with no problem, when this occured. Russet checked collimation with the Shack-Hartmann. No collimation necessary We then set up to observer the Aldeberan occultation. Unfortunately we didn't have a strong enogh ND filter at the start. Aldeberan was saturating. I tried to go up and quickly switch in some denser ND filters, but missed the ingress by about 45 seconds. The star was behind the moon for about 40 mins so I took the time to properly focus the telescope and prepare for egress. We caught it as it cae out from behind the moon!!! One frame nothing, then next Aldeberan is there (1.2s exposures). I reset the ARCTIC ICC (2x) still missing the upper left quad. I re-checked the ARCTIC focus script after the ICC restarts. seemed to still work. I further tested a few more things. ARCTIC temps were running 160K and 129K with missing quad. TSPEC Aux tank temp was running around 80.4 most of the first half tonight. Instrument was left inverted with a pierced ballon over the aux port. It jumped back up to 81.3K after midnight. The instrument was not disturbed. It then dropped back to 80.2K around 01:00 NA2 rotator did not finish move completely 2016-10-19 06:58:08 .tcc.0 0 tcc i TCCPos=17.000000,75.000000,0.000000; AxePos=16.999939,74.999685,-12.393626; 2016-10-19 06:58:17 .tcc.0 0 tcc w WarnRotStatus; RotStat=-3.435833,-0.000000,4983577097.05000,0x00000001; RotDTime=0.18 2016-10-19 06:58:17 .tcc.0 0 tcc i TCCPos=17.000000,75.000000,nan; AxePos=16.999972,74.999692,-3.435833; We think a controller reset may be in order (see below) as we were not sure if/what controllers were reset during yesterday's enginerring. I will reset them all after APOLLO. I gave APOLLO a few extra minutes at the end of their run tonight. Reset ALt, Az, NA2 Rotator drive controllers. Did test slews after reset to verify working. 100 point model taken, skipped one point and removed one. Model implemented. Spot checked NA2 (guider), pointing looks good. Checked Echelle pointing looks good. TSPEC Aux tank was 80.3 at the end of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:37 arctic 705( 1114) 33 53 13.4 14.8 15.1 14.4 14.0 SDSS_r 0.95 19:59 arctic 765( 1091) 48 53 12.9 13.2 13.9 13.0 13.0 SDSS_r 0.91 20:39 arctic 691( 990) 34 59 12.4 12.7 13.4 12.5 12.5 SDSS_r 0.95 20:50 shack 816( 1505) 40 61 12.1 12.5 13.3 12.4 12.4 -- 1.00 22:41 AGILE 691(-1261) 86 45 11.9 11.5 12.2 11.4 11.4 Balzer_ND12 1.30 23:44 arctic 567( 895) 23 59 12.5 11.3 11.9 11.2 11.4 SDSS_r 1.00 00:09 APOLLO 555( 1547) 75 51 11.5 11.5 12.1 11.5 11.6 -- 1.70 02:05 guider 657( 889) -68 39 11.6 11.1 11.6 11.2 11.3 B 1.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 64 22 11 251 (WSW) 275 clear none 17:00 63 22 6 231 (SW) 330 clear none 18:00 60 22 12 225 (SW) 408 clear none 19:00 57 20 10 205 (SSW) 477 clear none 20:00 56 20 14 188 (S) 742 clear none 21:00 55 19 14 211 (SSW) 705 clear none 22:00 54 20 15 226 (SW) 664 clear none 23:00 53 22 9 215 (SW) 517 clear none 00:00 54 23 16 206 (SSW) 475 clear none 01:00 54 22 10 221 (SW) 407 clear none 02:00 52 20 12 213 (SSW) 396 clear none 03:00 53 22 9 254 (WSW) 407 clear none 04:00 52 22 7 263 (W) 453 clear none 05:00 52 23 12 313 (NW) 487 clear none 06:00 52 23 13 329 (NNW) 548 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
