Clouds, humidity, and snow all prevented us from opening. Cleared the sidewalks of snow during the afternoon. about 6 inches or so accumulation, but it was falling as I was cleaning the sidewalks. Will check/remove snow again around 2 or 3AM. Joe did some shutter testing on ARCTIC since it was good and cold (-7.0C). I ran linearity tests for him afterwards. @23:30 we lost some of our connection to the internet to the outside world. Some non APO web sites would work but many would not. I ran some exposures of the ARCTIC shutter at -8.6C, lowest temps I have seen so far. @03:20 I cleared the catwalk of as much snow as I could. Some ice underneath and lots of ice on the railing. Hopfully the sun will help melt this during the daytime, if the temps get warm enough. @03:30 I examined the 3.5m enclosure roof. Lots of ice on the lightning arrestors. Snow drifts on eaves of the enclosure as well as near the hatch. Snow elsewhere on the main roof, some places clear some with snow. I left the telescope parked due South to hopefully have the sun help remove some of the ice from the building, but snow probably needs to be removed manually. The lightning arrestors should be examined tomorrow afternoon to see if the ice has melted off them during the daytime. For some reason the night log program would not include the 2nd half (3rd)program in the generated log file this morning. I had to manually add it to this night log. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 20 17 20 254 (WSW) 413 cloudy snow 17:00 20 17 14 269 (W) 7301 cloudy snow 18:00 19 17 10 268 (W) 1059 cloudy snow 19:00 19 17 15 253 (WSW) 9742 cloudy snow 20:00 20 17 9 290 (WNW) 1914 cloudy lt snow 21:00 20 17 8 267 (W) 2749 cloudy lt snow 22:00 20 17 6 296 (WNW) 1164 cloudy lt snow 23:00 19 16 11 1 (N) 3958 cloudy humid 00:00 18 14 13 355 (N) 47 ptly cldy humid 01:00 17 14 10 10 (N) 50 mstly clr humid 02:00 17 13 6 358 (N) 35 clear humid 03:00 16 12 14 36 (NE) 40 clear humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
