It took a little extra work to make sure the correct software versions were running, but since we knew to look out for this problem the swap seemed to go reasonably smoothly. I did not realize there was also a problem with the telescope control computer. We were able to open for a little while in the evening when humidity came down, although I warned the observer we would only be able to use a portion of the sky facing into the wind (to avoid snow and ice being blown down from the roof into the dome). I tried to focus, but pointing was off by many arcminutes. I spent a while trying to figure out if the problem was with azimuth, altitude, secondary, or tertiary, until the clouds and humidity got bad again so I had to close. Conor logged in and mentioned there might be a problem with software versions on TCC as well as hub. We got the software version straightened out, but then realized that all of the data files (collimation, pointing models, instrument blocks) had been reverted back to before the July 2015 shutdown. This likely accounted for the very bad pointing. Unfortunately, with thick clouds and high humidity I didn't get the opportunity to confirm it. Humidity stayed high for the rest of the night and we also had a little light snowfall. Hopefully all the lost files from the past six months can be restored before tomorrow. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UC01 E T/S 21:15 22:05 TCC files reverted to July ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 20 18 1 226 (SW) 99 cloudy humid 17:00 17 10 3 341 (NNW) 37 mstly cldy humid 18:00 17 9 10 6 (N) 35 ptly cldy humid 19:00 17 14 15 41 (NE) 57 ptly cldy humid 20:00 18 11 10 34 (NE) 46 ptly cldy humid 21:00 17 15 14 21 (NNE) 55 ptly cldy none 22:00 18 15 6 42 (NE) 75 ptly cldy none 23:00 17 15 10 20 (NNE) 76 ptly cldy humid 00:00 17 15 11 13 (NNE) 64 ptly cldy lt snow 01:00 16 15 11 39 (NE) 71 ptly cldy humid 02:00 16 14 11 38 (NE) 88 ptly cldy lt snow 03:00 16 15 3 348 (NNW) 272 ptly cldy lt snow 04:00 15 14 17 30 (NNE) 60 ptly cldy humid 05:00 15 13 7 27 (NNE) 53 ptly cldy humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
