Reset mirror cover switch. When I went to do test slews later, only the first set of mirror covers would open. Joe reset switch for me, again. This time the covers opened. clouds kept us closed at the start of the night. We managed to open around the end of twilight. As soon as I opened and went to my focus star the telescope refused to move the focus. I called Bill, he suggested homing the secondary. This didn't seem to fix the problem. Bill then discovered that the wrong TCC was running. I restarted that, and after a bit of fumbling due to a mistake in the email I was reading, we managed to get the new tcc version running and talking to the mirrors. Just when it looked like things were working Alas the secondary problem was still there. At this point Bill re-homed the secondary to again try to clear the problem (it appeared to be D & E now). After the home, things seemed to be working properly. We lost about 10 mins due to clouds at the start of the 2nd half. We observed for about an hour 2nd half and then clouds came back and I closed again. After waiting 30 mins or better the clouds appeared to be moving out with mostly clear skies. I re-opened and like magic orographic clouds appeared directly over top of us. I kept the building open but the mirror covers closed for an hour. The dust counts started to rise so I decided to close the dome once more. It wasn't like the clouds were going away either. I opened at 03:30, humidity started to climb at 03:40. Dust climbed as well to near limits. We stayed open. Please CO2 clean mirror due to dust event during the last part of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW03 D T/H 21:24 23:24 Problem with focus/Secondary motion ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:23 dcamera 128( 790) 255 28 15.3 15.6 15.6 15.3 14.4 -- 1.90 00:28 dcamera 307( 711) 188 62 13.6 14.7 14.9 14.6 13.9 -- 1.50 03:40 dcamera 335( 688) -33 53 13.6 13.5 14.2 13.7 13.4 -- 1.10 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp C Dewp C MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 61 50 6 325 (NW) 3741 mstly cldy none 17:00 61 53 5 186 (S) 4549 mstly cldy none 18:00 63 52 0 111 (ESE) 4500 mstly cldy none 19:00 64 52 6 268 (W) 4215 mstly cldy none 20:00 59 52 5 184 (S) 4476 mstly cldy none 21:00 60 50 1 210 (SSW) 4514 ptly cldy none 22:00 59 49 1 235 (SW) 4439 ptly cldy none 23:00 59 48 5 192 (SSW) 4418 ptly cldy none 00:00 58 48 3 188 (S) 4231 ptly cldy none 01:00 57 47 23 60 (ENE) 2993 ptly cldy none 02:00 57 47 4 299 (WNW) 3166 cloudy none 03:00 57 48 4 260 (W) 4605 ptly cldy dust 04:00 57 50 3 267 (W) 5829 clear dust 05:00 56 50 4 272 (W) 5915 mstly clr dust Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
