Subject: 3.5m Night Log 20150601 From: dembicky@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Tue, 2 Jun 2015 10:34:14 +0000 (UTC) Apache Point Observatory 3.5m Telescope Night Log Monday, June 01, 2015 ACTUAL ASTRONOMER OBSERVER(S) INSTRUMENT START FINISH -------------------------------------------------------------------- M.Klaene J.Dembicky, R.McMillan DIS 20:15 05:47 INST SCHEDULED WEATH EQUIP OBS NOT USED I/ROW/DN START FINISH D B D B D B D B ---------------------------------------------------------------- EN01/W 20:15 05:47 0 0 0 0 0.0 9.5 0 0 note: scheduled times listed include instrument change time ------------- ACTIVITY LOG -------------- Observing Specialist: J.Dembicky Pollen tonight, coating car windows, please clean 3.5m primary tomorrow. TSPEC seems to have recovered on its own. Checkout images looked fine. First red DIS image was bad, took a second and it looked fine. Probably due to the work on the instrument today. New DIS slitcamera reads out much faster, very nice!!! I created new DIS slit masks. mkcammask would not work, used mkdcammask Problem may be with the size of the files written by the MaskImages script, will investigate later. (Fixed) I reset the alt and az controllers DIS slit cam testing ---------------------------- We noticed astigmatism rather obvious with the new dis slitviewer. Offsets work, correct directions Center Select works boresight guiding works Spectra focus vs. slitviewer Blue -25 Red +25 Instrument block ---------------- New instrument block for the new DIS slitviewer New dcam pixel scale 0.162 arc sec/pixel Shack-Hartmann -------------- Collimation looked good, no changes. DIS slitviewer Guiding tests ---------------------------- We checked guiding after the instrument block. seemed fine. Russet may have found a bug with the nudger (she will send details). We decided to close, due to the pollen, and do in dome tasks. There looks to be some fine pollen or dust on the mirror. Hard to tell. Definately on the car windshields outside. I installed Pinhole, found the slit wheel not properly tightend. I also blew off the slits with canned air to remove some lint we were seeing earlier. Another set of slit masks, since Russet rotated the slitviewer slightly when we adjusted focus (improved orientation of the slit to more horizontal). I modified mkcammask python script for the new 1024x1024 dcam images. This allowed me to use the mkcammask script again to generate masks with bias subtract. Needed to change the parameter from 0.75 to 0.6 to get decent masks. Wiki updated with change. We fixed the boresight location on the dis slitviewer to be better centered on all slits (just a tad high on 0.9 but this is normal). We tracked down (we think) a bug in the hub with the defaut size. email set to Fritz ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:29 shack 377( 1338) -128 63 12.9 14.9 15.2 14.5 13.0 -- 1.70 00:48 dcamera 153( 549) -20 55 12.6 14.4 14.6 13.9 12.9 -- 1.90 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp C Dewp C MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 71 34 10 258 (WSW) 655 mstly cldy none 17:00 69 34 7 233 (SW) 695 cloudy lt rain 18:00 60 36 16 286 (WNW) 3258 cloudy none 19:00 60 31 1 184 (S) 629 cloudy none 20:00 62 32 9 299 (WNW) 701 mstly cldy none 21:00 62 31 10 267 (W) 677 ptly cldy none 22:00 61 30 5 268 (W) 635 mstly clr none 23:00 61 32 5 189 (S) 791 ptly cldy none 00:00 57 35 19 148 (SSE) 1148 ptly cldy none 01:00 55 38 14 127 (SE) 677 ptly cldy none 02:00 55 38 15 143 (SE) 660 ptly cldy none 03:00 57 36 7 180 (S) 878 ptly cldy none 04:00 57 36 4 191 (S) 1177 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
