We worked on DIS focus and checked the ARCTIC idle time for needing extra biases. Made new DIS dcam masks. We opened for about a half hour in a cloud hole to try and test the DIS adjustments we made. But the hole closed on us before we finished. Opened again when things had cleared up more. We still battled thin clouds, but they were not threatening. We did dcam shutter testing (looks good, thanks Bill!). We also checked on some fainter standard star fields for ARCTIC. All of the proposed fields look plausible, even though we were fighting some thin clouds. We also double checked the focus vs altitude changes that we made yesterday. We adjusted echelle pointing. Then we ran out of tests to do in marginal weather, so we decided to take some pretty pictures with the H alpha filters. When I put the SDSS filter wheel back in, ARCTIC didn't seem able to identify the correct wheel. Or maybe the filter name files had the SDSS filters in the wrong wheel? I tried reseating it and making sure it was in properly installed, which seemed to fix it. When we ran out of tests and it was almost 4:00, I tried calling Candace for some Venus observations. She didn't answer, so I carried on with images myself. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:27 dcamera 364( 242) 33 47 6.3 7.2 7.3 7.4 6.7 -- 1.50 22:31 dcamera 520( 361) 263 51 7.3 6.5 6.8 6.8 6.9 -- 1.47 23:57 arctic 530( 558) 323 52 8.3 7.3 7.7 7.6 7.6 SDSS r 1.08 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp C Dewp C MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 48 18 7 283 (WNW) 260 cloudy none 17:00 44 17 1 223 (SW) 233 cloudy none 18:00 43 16 7 299 (WNW) 242 cloudy none 19:00 43 15 7 272 (W) 534 cloudy none 20:00 43 18 8 254 (WSW) 441 cloudy none 21:00 44 17 5 204 (SSW) 595 cloudy none 22:00 45 17 6 258 (WSW) 249 cloudy none 23:00 44 18 7 266 (W) 304 mstly clr none 00:00 46 21 9 293 (WNW) 292 mstly clr none 01:00 47 16 6 272 (W) 277 ptly cldy none 02:00 46 19 12 266 (W) 316 ptly cldy none 03:00 47 18 8 265 (W) 345 ptly cldy none 04:00 45 19 4 231 (SW) 310 mstly clr none 05:00 45 18 10 283 (WNW) 309 ptly cldy none 06:00 44 18 11 220 (SW) 325 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
