We had a clearing around 10:30 but precip was near us so I opted to stay closed until conditions improved more. Around 23:30 we had radar returns around Las Curces and El Paso moving towards us, althought the humidity and sky had improved rather than risk precipitation. There was still radar returns near us to our East as well. light rain around 00:30 Moth smashed in az drive. I cleaned the az drive 5x. I still had repeated drive motion errors in azimuth at multiple locations. Dataq Az error also swung wildly when it failed. I also noticed that the AZ actual and commanded differed by about 0.3 deg at the end of the slew. A few seconds later (maybe 5) it would match. Pointing was off about 1 entire fields. Russet happend to log in. We moved to high alt and rotated tert to another port (BC1) then back to NA1, as well as change instruments and then back to echele. No difference. We adjusted the tiptilt of the TertX to get the echelle pointing better. We finished at 05:35. I was about to close for Humidity but the observer finished on sky at this point. Left tert pointing at BC1 for APOLLO day work. Email sent to respective parties with details on tonights problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW05 E T/H 02:00 04:15 Moths smashed in Az drive. I cleaned drive surface 5x I still had motion errors and the drive halting on me. We moved to the target and pointing was off. Eventually we just fixed Echelle pointing to get us observing. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 04:14 ecamera 505( -791) -50 40 4.8 4.4 4.9 4.6 4.5 ND3 1.10 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp C Dewp C MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 44 43 10 5 (N) 5108 cloudy none 17:00 39 32 7 188 (S) 272 cloudy rain 18:00 37 32 3 94 (E) 186 cloudy rain 19:00 37 31 15 202 (SSW) 7314 cloudy rain 20:00 40 31 21 207 (SSW) 217 cloudy lt rain 21:00 40 20 16 183 (S) 223 cloudy none 22:00 40 29 11 183 (S) 220 mstly cldy none 23:00 40 32 10 187 (S) 229 ptly cldy none 00:00 41 31 6 196 (SSW) 255 mstly cldy lt rain 01:00 41 32 3 233 (SW) 233 ptly cldy none 02:00 39 32 4 252 (WSW) 293 mstly clr none 03:00 39 32 7 204 (SSW) 249 clear none 04:00 40 32 2 255 (WSW) 289 clear none 05:00 39 32 6 188 (S) 283 mstly cldy humid 06:00 38 32 3 194 (SSW) 464 mstly cldy humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
