However, seeing was pretty bad and we also had clouds at the beginning of the night. The theme for the night was ICC program restarts. SPIcam, originally requested for the Adler program, was having readout problems which did not recover over many ICC restarts and instrument resets. They decided to use ARCTIC instead, which started out all right but then we had some trouble - pressing the Stop button to halt an exposure resulted in hanging up the ICC program. I had instructions for restarting the ICC but I didn't have the necessary passwords. I never did get the passwords, but Conor was able to restart the ICC remotely and then it was okay. Since ARCTIC is not yet a facility instrument, the lost time is logged to SPIcam where the original failure was. ARCSAT also had some difficulty - first multiple closures when humidity was borderline, that I couldn't override although I thought it was safe. Then another unplanned closure perhaps due to communication loss. The second half observer missed an alarm and logged in late, but Adler was able to continue observing during that period, so ARCTIC got a lot more exercise. When the UC observer did log in, there was a problem with the echelle. The ICC had to be restarted three times before it would connect properly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AD02 S I/S 00:55 01:25 SPIcam readout problems UC01 E I/S 04:04 04:18 Echelle ICC needed restart ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:58 dcamera 434( 463) 92 61 7.9 10.3 10.9 10.5 8.9 - 2.80 00:30 arctic 280( 457) -105 40 6.2 5.8 6.4 5.9 5.8 r 2.10 04:36 ecamera 530( -752) -75 58 5.5 5.1 5.7 5.2 5.1 Clear 1.20 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp C Dewp C MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 49 30 14 96 (E) 546 cloudy none 17:00 50 30 14 116 (ESE) 506 mstly cldy none 18:00 49 28 20 125 (SE) 438 ptly cldy none 19:00 46 27 18 110 (ESE) 403 ptly cldy none 20:00 46 28 19 115 (ESE) 407 ptly cldy none 21:00 45 34 22 125 (SE) 503 ptly cldy none 22:00 44 37 16 142 (SE) 550 mstly clr none 23:00 43 38 21 126 (SE) 696 mstly clr none 00:00 43 39 19 124 (SE) 820 mstly clr none 01:00 43 37 22 125 (SE) 915 mstly clr none 02:00 43 37 20 128 (SE) 838 mstly clr none 03:00 42 38 19 128 (SE) 942 clear none 04:00 42 37 19 135 (SE) 739 clear none 05:00 42 36 19 154 (SSE) 696 clear none 06:00 42 35 17 146 (SE) 686 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
