Humidity was near the limit but with the telescope fairly warm I felt safe in pushing the humidity limit for a while. However, seeing was poor to awful and thin clouds gradually increased, until it just wasn't worth it to keep pushing the humidity. We closed for several hours. When the sky and humidity both improved a little, we reopened, but the telescope was having problems moving in altitude. It might have been a moth, or it might have been the large change in temperature destabilizing the system. The problem was bad enough that I couldn't even move the telescope to clean the moth guts away. By this time there was about an hour and a half until twilight and the observer didn't think she would be able to get science even if we woke someone up to work on the telescope, so we called it for the rest of the night. I used the bypass to allow ARCSAT to stay open after the 3.5m dome was closed. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DD03 G T/H 03:20 05:51 alt motion errors ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:56 ecamera 808( 27) 116 71 11.1 12.2 12.7 11.9 11.3 ND1 1.68 21:41 GIFS 625( 1006) 93 41 10.9 10.8 11.3 10.9 10.9 green 3.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 52 46 17 66 (ENE) 2123 cloudy rain 17:00 56 49 18 72 (ENE) 759 ptly cldy none 18:00 60 50 13 57 (ENE) 653 ptly cldy none 19:00 57 49 19 69 (ENE) 606 ptly cldy none 20:00 53 48 19 76 (ENE) 1518 ptly cldy none 21:00 52 47 19 74 (ENE) 2555 ptly cldy none 22:00 52 48 15 65 (ENE) 3158 ptly cldy none 23:00 52 48 21 76 (ENE) 3069 ptly cldy humid 00:00 51 50 22 72 (ENE) 2680 ptly cldy humid 01:00 50 47 17 77 (ENE) 2590 ptly cldy none 02:00 50 48 18 74 (ENE) 2941 ptly cldy none 03:00 50 47 19 74 (ENE) 3026 mstly clr none 04:00 50 47 18 73 (ENE) 3147 clear none 05:00 50 46 14 61 (ENE) 3013 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
