Carolyn Morris. When facing the telescope, the lower right mirror cover petal seemed to stick during afternoon checkout. I used TUI to open and close the covers for test slews, but when I closed them again, this petal remained open. I opened and closed them manually several times, and this petal closed and open with this rest. I had no problem with it after that. After mounting Tspec for JH06, I asked Jenny to slew to her target. We got another "motion error too large" in azimuth. We were pointed at ~ -27 degrees, attempting to slew to ~ +20 degrees. I stopped and restarted the axes twice, and she got an error during slew, and we saw a current spike of ~10 A. I stopped the axis motors, and then slewed to -40 in Az. This worked, with good current feedback. I asked her to slew to her target again, and it was successful, with oscialliating current feedback no higher than 5 A. It took less than five minutes to recover, so I did not count this as time lost. No problems the remainder of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:33 dcamera 470( 1023) -9 82 16.4 17.8 17.8 17.5 16.4 -- 1.14 21:35 tcamera 415( 1109) 11 73 16.1 16.6 16.8 16.3 15.8 -- 1.93 00:07 tcamera 521( 1157) -70 55 13.6 15.1 15.7 14.7 14.5 -- 2.37 01:18 tcamera 546( 1154) 18 47 15.0 14.5 15.0 14.4 14.7 -- 1.98 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 64 22 5 268 (W) 2077 clear none 17:00 65 22 8 338 (NNW) 1613 clear none 18:00 65 24 15 13 (NNE) 1662 clear none 19:00 66 24 10 299 (WNW) 1770 clear none 20:00 63 21 6 260 (W) 1846 clear none 21:00 61 19 8 307 (NW) 1917 clear none 22:00 60 18 3 339 (NNW) 1972 clear none 23:00 61 20 2 228 (SW) 1869 clear none 00:00 60 18 4 189 (S) 1987 clear none 01:00 60 19 1 252 (WSW) 1748 clear none 02:00 58 17 5 264 (W) 1948 clear none 03:00 58 19 2 236 (SW) 1846 clear none 04:00 57 21 6 242 (WSW) 1806 clear none 05:00 56 19 3 186 (S) 1838 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
