The pointing difficulties were still noticeable with the echelle. I set it up to favor better pointing after a downward slew (typical of the first target after rotating the tertiary), and this worked nicely to start with, making initial acquisition very smooth. But over time as the Kepler field tracked upward this became less true, until finally on one field we were really lost. My quick-fix guesses didn't work, so we had to slew away and back to cross some magnesensors, and then the pointing was okay again. This probably didn't really take more time than multiple one- or two-minute pointing difficulties, but since it was an identifiable chunk of time I listed it as EQUIP. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM05 E T/H 04:46 04:51 pointing problem ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:26 dcamera 700( 927) 133 73 8.7 11.3 10.3 12.0 9.0 - 1.26 01:23 ecamera 701( -246) 126 39 8.4 8.2 8.8 8.2 7.8 ND1 0.95 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 52 10 11 294 (WNW) 2622 ptly cldy none 17:00 51 11 6 305 (NW) 2759 ptly cldy none 18:00 52 12 6 264 (W) 2730 mstly clr none 19:00 51 9 14 217 (SW) 2990 mstly clr none 20:00 48 6 13 202 (SSW) 3457 clear none 21:00 48 6 16 186 (S) 3661 clear none 22:00 48 6 12 190 (S) 3415 clear none 23:00 49 7 14 216 (SW) 2895 clear none 00:00 49 9 14 253 (WSW) 2616 clear none 01:00 48 7 16 216 (SW) 2672 clear none 02:00 48 7 20 210 (SSW) 2835 clear none 03:00 47 8 17 210 (SSW) 2446 clear none 04:00 46 11 17 222 (SW) 2233 clear none 05:00 45 11 15 260 (W) 2460 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
