By sunset the sky was clear, but there was blowing snow from building roofs. I kept the 3.5m closed for a few hours, changing the dome position relative to wind and making sure the telescope was well below freezing. Finally the wind dropped and we were able to open to clear skies but mediocre seeing. The sensor that normally puts temperature in the night log is down right now, but the low temperature was around 20 F. Fortunately we had no cold-related problems; they must be waiting for the holidays to make an appearance. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:50 SPIcam 308( -187) 35 70 5.0 -5.8 -5.4 -5.6 -6.2 r 2.06 23:17 dcamera 281( -412) 56 65 5.0 -6.7 -6.2 -6.8 -4.7 - 1.78 01:47 SPIcam 392( -115) -39 51 5.0 -6.3 -5.7 -6.7 -6.2 R 1.12 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 7 352 (N) 324 clear none 17:00 4 51 (NE) 229 clear none 18:00 14 23 (NNE) 208 clear none 19:00 22 19 (NNE) 192 clear none 20:00 24 38 (NE) 168 clear none 21:00 17 22 (NNE) 169 clear none 22:00 22 32 (NNE) 191 clear none 23:00 8 352 (N) 265 clear none 00:00 2 198 (SSW) 136 clear none 01:00 5 346 (NNW) 141 clear none 02:00 2 247 (WSW) 111 clear none 03:00 5 219 (SW) 140 clear none 04:00 3 252 (WSW) 114 clear none 05:00 3 246 (WSW) 145 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
