We did have a period with low humidity and thinning clouds when we were able to open and the first-half observer got some useful observations on bright targets. Then the clouds irised in from all directions at once. APOLLO was never able to range but did get some important calibration checks done after recent work on the laser, before standing around for a while staring at the sky. Meanwhile, a storm started over El Paso, grew surprisingly strong, and traveled north up the Tularosa basin, avoiding the mountains - all very strange things for a storm to do in the middle of the night. Second half was lost to nearby rain and lightning with high humidity, but we didn't get any rain at the observatory until 04:30. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:23 dis-slit 440( 735) -120 62 11.6 12.6 12.8 12.3 11.7 - 1.40 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 59 53 18 210 (SSW) cloudy rain 17:00 58 49 12 148 (SSE) cloudy none 18:00 52 48 10 101 (E) cloudy humid 19:00 52 47 12 108 (ESE) mstly cldy humid 20:00 51 48 14 87 (E) mstly cldy humid 21:00 52 49 15 99 (E) mstly cldy humid 22:00 53 47 18 109 (ESE) ptly cldy none 23:00 54 45 22 124 (SE) ptly cldy none 00:00 52 48 16 106 (ESE) mstly cldy humid 01:00 51 48 17 123 (ESE) ptly cldy humid 02:00 52 48 14 129 (SE) ptly cldy humid 03:00 53 49 6 176 (S) mstly cldy humid 04:00 52 50 8 172 (S) mstly cldy rain 05:00 51 50 6 119 (ESE) mstly cldy lt rain Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
