Varying clouds caused occasional problems both first and second half, but the observers were able to continue taking data through the clouds, so I didn't count any of that time as lost. The beginning of the night had a record or near-record for seeing with the echelle: I got 0.48" on the final focus image. It degraded somewhat after that with most stars around 0.8-1 arcsec with the echelle, then a bit worse when SPIcam was focused. Later in the morning I did get 0.7" with SPIcam, as well. SPIcam had no problems with dark current tonight. At one point we thought the telescope pointing was off, but it turned out to be bad target coordinates. So there were no equipment difficulties tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:48 ECHELLE 599( 228) 236 73 19.0 20.2 19.5 20.1 18.5 ND1 0.48 00:18 SPICAM 477( 1162) -12 48 16.6 17.0 17.3 16.9 16.9 r 1.30 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 65 42 7 82 (E) mstly cldy none 17:00 65 41 10 71 (ENE) mstly cldy none 18:00 66 38 11 70 (ENE) mstly cldy none 19:00 67 39 2 110 (ESE) mstly cldy none 20:00 66 41 2 223 (SW) mstly cldy none 21:00 66 40 2 239 (WSW) ptly cldy none 22:00 64 41 5 260 (W) ptly cldy none 23:00 64 41 1 239 (WSW) mstly cldy none 00:00 63 41 5 201 (SSW) mstly cldy none 01:00 63 40 1 203 (SSW) mstly cldy none 02:00 62 41 7 179 (S) mstly clr none 03:00 62 40 4 144 (SE) mstly clr none 04:00 62 41 5 189 (S) ptly cldy none 05:00 61 40 2 170 (S) ptly cldy none 06:00 61 41 4 191 (S) mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
