At first slew, we received a altitude motion error, and an error current of over 10 amps. I stopped and reinitialized the axies, asked the user to slew again, with another failure. I called Fritz first, and he he attempted to slew with errors as well. The telescope seemed to have the most trouble around 25 degree altitude. I went upstairs and inspected the drive shaft again. There were no moth guts, or any other obvious physical obstructions. Fritz found no obvious error with software or communications, and I had no trouble during test slews, so I called Joe after I could not get a hold of Bill. He recommended I check the brakes, which checked out, and then use low-level commands, and Fritz was able to slew successfully with talk2boxes commands. There were a lot of slips detected, however. They both logged off, and on my first slew, I got another large error. I called Joe, who advised me to clean the drive shaft anyways. I scrubbed the shaft, removed some black dust, but no moths. I was able to slew again, did several tests, and got Chris on sky at 23:17. The Parallels desktop froze, and after rebooting the strip-chart mac, it refused to load. I left the error message on the screen. Nosy clouds hung around all night, but did not interfere too much with data collection. We ran without issue until just before twilight, when UW01's faint targets were washed out in clouds. We closed and took cals. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:26 dis-slit 332( 428) -121 80 15.5 15.7 16.0 15.6 15.2 -- 0.93 01:29 TSPEC 350( 600) -88 78 15.2 14.8 15.2 14.7 14.6 -- 2.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 62 51 7 100 (E) 792 cloudy none 17:00 64 51 6 109 (ESE) 737 mstly cldy none 18:00 62 53 7 134 (SE) 719 cloudy none 19:00 61 50 14 122 (ESE) 635 mstly cldy none 20:00 61 49 10 110 (ESE) 655 mstly cldy none 21:00 62 49 13 132 (SE) 805 ptly cldy none 22:00 60 49 16 124 (SE) 847 ptly cldy none 23:00 60 49 14 114 (ESE) 981 mstly clr none 00:00 60 49 12 121 (ESE) 1383 mstly clr none 01:00 60 48 17 135 (SE) 1268 ptly cldy none 02:00 59 45 16 132 (SE) 974 ptly cldy none 03:00 59 45 16 128 (SE) 949 mstly cldy none 04:00 59 45 18 133 (SE) 709 ptly cldy none 05:00 58 46 17 128 (SE) 654 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
